Breastfeeding

Suggestions for snacks/foods for dairy/soy/egg/nut free diet?

I have been put on a restricted diet as long as I am breastfeeding (daughter has a protein allergy and ruling out others) so no soy, dairy, egg or nut products....I wandered around Walmart last night for 2 hours reading labels...any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA

  • wow. Honestly I'd call a nutritionist/dietitian. That is one tough list.

  • Yeah! I know tell me about it.....EVERYTHING has one of the above ingredients....and I really don't want to stop breastfeeding yet :(
  • I found this list. It's isn't the healthiest list, but it's huge.

Healthy would be hummus, veggies, bread, fruit.

I've been on a corn/wheat/dairy/soy/egg/fish free diet for quite awhile now. It's hard but doable. Your best bet is to stay away from boxed foods. Even if one is free of a certain allergen it usually has another. Totally frustrating, I know.

I snack on fruits mostly, & Rice Chex with coconut milk. Coconut milk ice cream is also divine. Hummus is another good one. Since you don't have to worry about wheat, slap some on pita for a healthful snack. If you have a Costco near you, they carry a brand of hummus that's cheap & tasty. I sprinkle a little olive oil, cumin & cinammon on top for extra spice.

  • sunbutter?  sunflower seed butter? it's not a nut and tastes good.  any kind of seeds - pumpkin, etc?  hummus on pita or veggies.  fruits - dried or fresh.  pita/bagel chips.

we're on a soy/almond/dairy/gluten/wheat free diet and it's hard, but bfing is totally worth it.

I would say you aren't going to find alot of choices at Walmart, Target, or even most major grocery stores. You need to go to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, or another health food store. Look for labels like gluten free and dairy free.
