traveling at 30-31 weeks

Our friends are having their wedding (they got married civily but never had a wedding) in the DR this summer.  DH would love to go since he is Dominican and we went there to Santo Domingo and La Romana for our HM.  However, we've always talked about going to Puntacana and this is where the wedding will be.  I was hoping their wedding would be a little earlier in the summer, but we just got the date and I'll be 30-31 weeks by then.

I don't think it's a good idea.  We have another friend due in September and I doubt they're going.  WWYD?  Send a nice gift and our congratulations?!

Re: traveling at 30-31 weeks

  • BTW, when they mentioned destination wedding, I was hoping they meant the Keys since my OB has an office there ;)

  • I *think* you're not supposed to travel after 30 weeks, but I don't remember, definitely ask your OB.  I would play it by ear and see how you feel.  If your pregnancy progresses just fine and you don't have any issues then going may be ok, but if you have any issues at all, then its probably not a good idea.  You have to think what if something happens while you're away - is that where you want to be?

  • I don't think you'll be allowed to travel at 30 weeks:/

  • I don't think you can travel internationally at 31 weeks.

  • My OB said no traveling after 36 weeks. My friend just went to Mexico at 34 weeks and she was fine. I think it depends on how your pregnancy is going and how you feel. I probably wouldn't go at 30-31 weeks, but if you want to, you probably can!
  • My doctor said no International travel after 32 weeks and no domestic trave after 36 weeks. Talk to your doctor.
  • Ask your OB and see what he/she says. If you're not feeling up to it, you can always blame it on "dr's orders" & send a nice gift.
  • Like the girls said, ask OB for certainty.

However, it is i a very close friend of Dh's, maybe you can travel over there alone?  We have a friend that got married in DR a few yrs ago, and one of the couples, the wife couldn't make it... but the Dh went alone.  Not sure if that is an option.

  • Jackie, that's not really an option for us.  DH HATES flying and I don't think he'd want to fly alone.  I don't think I'd want to stay home alone during 3rd tri.

I let the bride know that we need to speak to the doc first and then I'd let her know.  That way, she'll have an answer within the next couple of weeks.  I remember how important those rsvp's were.  Right now, we're leaning towards no, but we'll see after we talk to Dr. Kellogg.

I would talk to your Ob since at 31 weeks I think you can make the cutoff but it really depends on their preference and your medical condition at the time.
