2nd Trimester

I have a question about the 1hr glucose test

So I have an appt today for a check up and have an order to do the 1hr test that I can do anytime this week, but figured I would do today since i'm there.

I completely forgot about my appt today and ate soo much junk this weekend including thismorning.  ( meaning toomany sweets)  I normally dont eat lots of sweets but there were two big family parties and with lots of pastries ( have a cousin who is a pasty chef).    I ate bad this morning too cuz we haven't gone and done any grocery shopping and just ate toast with jelly on it. and some cookies and milk.  ( not my normal breakfast trust me)

Do you think this will affect my test?  Should I just wait and do it another day?  I just dont want to have to do the 3hr on.                  Thanks

Re: I have a question about the 1hr glucose test

  • If I were you, I would def wait and put it off for another day...

  • How long after are you getting your test?  If it is soon, I would just wait, if it is hours from now you might be fine.  I would probably wait and then do it first thing in the morning.
  • If it was me, I'd wait and do it another time.   My nurse told me I'd fail because I ate a pop-tart before my test.  I didn't but still....or if you have time an hour prior, eat a high protein meal.  I ate eggs with cheese and drank water an hour prior and passed.

  • Last time I failed the one hour and passed the three hour.  I took the 1 hour in the afternoon, and a lot of people that I've seen fail the 1 hr and pass the 3 hr also did the test in the afternoon.  For this reason, I'm going to have a high protein breakfast (scrambled eggs) and take it in the morning.
  • You might want to put it off.  My office told me that I could have breakfast if I wanted to, but not to eat anything with a lot of sugar before the test.  If you had jelly and cookies, you might not want to risk it.
  • If I were you maybe I would hold off however whenever you do decide to take the test just make sure you don't alter your diet completely just so you pass the test. You want the results to be accurate and if you do indeed have gd you need to take the necessary precautions. Also I would double check with your dr office to see what they want you to do before test. Like if you have to fast for an hour or so ahead of time.
  • Thanks ladies!     My appt with the ob is at 3;30 today and for the glucose they told me to go like 2;30 or earlier.

I"m thinking  maybe i'll just eat some scrambled eggs like some of you suggested in the morning and then go and have it done tomorrow.

Good thing it's only 15 min from my home.
