Babies: 0 - 3 Months

I think I have the most needy child at daycare...

Our daycare puts up the parent's list of instructions on the door to the infant room so that any worker who goes in there will be able to provide basic care to any of the infants. Every one else list is pretty short like maybe 3-4 lines. Ours is almost a entire freaking page. They've added a few lines of their own notes as to what works best for them...but I swore to myself that I would not be THAT mom. The one who is so controlling of their child. I read through it today because I needed to add to her saline drops and boogie sucker to her list. Everything I have put on her care instructions is necessary (I think) to maintain her happiness, health, etc...

Gas and what works best to move it along

reflux - and her meds

Choking on Spit-up in her sleep - so sleeps on the incline that I provide

congestion - saline drops and boogie sucker. (I think she got my allergies which in a way is good because when I feel them coming I can start doing the saline drops often to catch them early)

how much and when to burp (every 1-2 ounces and attempt to burp for 5 minutes or until she burps - because she is super sensitive to air bubbles)

Her formula has probiotics in it and can't be microwaved

Formula has to be stirred not shaken (due to air bubbles)

Plus their notes on which swing/bouncer/toys/mobile she likes

and tummy time which I just added today and she has a tendency to bury her nose in the boppy and not lift her head and I wanted them to know that so they wouldn't walk away from her yet during tummy time

The only other child who has a longer note than the other infants has asthma I think and uses a nebulizer so those instructions take up half a page. I feel horrified that I've become that kind of mom but really don't see any way to change that at this point. Like I said everything on the list is something that needs to be done for her..right? Is there something that doesn't need to be up there? I just feel kind of embarrassed about it.....Thanks for letting me get it out...

  • I might be that mom too.

  • DH is a SAHD now but when my sister came to take care of DS for a week, I typed up 3 pages of instructions. And she has a degree in Early Childhood Education and worked in a daycare for 5 years. I'm definitely "that" mom too!
  • I'm  not that mom at all. The only thing I tell my sitter is that when she screams, swaddle her and feed her and she'll fall asleep. Everything else is at the descretion of the sitter. I know my baby will be fine with her or else i wouldn't have chosen her. It's ok to be "that mom" for now, but I think it has to stop at a certain point or your kid will be paranoid when someone sneezes. Smile
  • I don't think they should post it for all to see. At the daycare I use to work at (before DS came along) it was in a binder with the daily sheet that goes home with the parents. The workers could clearly read what each child needed but no one else. I really think that is an invasion of privacy.

Sounds like a reasonable list to me, I will probably do the same thing
  • I don't think any of us mind at this daycare having the instructions up. It's up high enough that other kids (who are able to read) can't see them and the instructions are usually on decorations like Easter eggs or Shamrocks so they don't look like instructions to someone just passing by. It also enables the child's handler to hold the child and not have to balance the child while reading through the notes in a binder or clip board. It's only the infants that have the posted notes not toddlers or older children. It also reminds the parents to provide updates such as starting to introduce foods or the tummy time increase like I did this morning. I think they do it because the babies are changing so fast and need to be updated frequently. So someone who hasn't been in the room recently may not immediately know of a new instruction for the week. They also put milestones up on stars (This boy rolled over today! or This girl giggled today!) I like these even though my LO hasn't done a milestone for them yet it's fun to see how the other babies are doing.
  • dont worry.. i'm going to be that mom too! i already feel bad about sending DD to daycare, but i was her experience to be as comfortable as possible.

and BTW.. my DD has a lot of the same issues your LO has... so i'm swiping your list that you just posted! thanks! haha

  • I'd be more embarrassed to NOT be that mom and just let the daycare providers handle issues however they saw fit when you know from being her mom what works best.  Don't sweat it...
  • Lol, your welcome! Giving them this list helped alot is what they told me after the first week. I was just embarrassed this morning when I realized how long it was compared to the others. That first week wasn't nearly as detailed as the one they have now, which I gave them for the second week. DD came home and screamed from gas pains all week long because she wasn't burping for the ladies but her usual ladies all know to get good big burps out of her now (after the gas hit her in the late afternoon on that first Friday...they called so panicked because they couldn't get her to calm down at all and she popped a tiny blood vessel in her eye!)  Poor DD...but she loves daycare now and smiles at the ladies when we get there :-)
