XP: Flying with pumped BM

Hi Ladies!  Have you flown with pumped BM?  Wednesday morning I fly to Boston.  I'll have empty bottles but will have my ice pack things.  Will those pose a problem at security?

On the way home later that day, I'll have about 12 oz of BM.  It will be in bottles of about 3 oz each.  I know from the TSA site that I have to declare that I have milk before I get up to the security person.  They are supposed to inspect it and allow it.  I've heard a few horror stories -- using some sort of test strip in the milk or even just throwing it away if not traveling with a baby.  Anyone have a good or bad experience?  Any tips?  I'm so nervous about this and really don't want it to be a big deal since I'll be with coworkers.  TIA!

Re: XP: Flying with pumped BM

  • I've flown twice for work without DD and did not have a problem- I did let TSA know before I went through that I had a pump and ice and the milk on the way home.  It didn't phase them, but they will want to screen everything separately as well.  They had me take the tops off the bottles and they just waved a vapor thing over the top- they did NOT touch the milk.  They also perform an explosives test on the pump but that was it.  Just allow anextra 5 minutes or so for that process.

  • We just flew to Boston last week and I had no problems with security (I did have DS). They only had me take my cooler out of my pump bag just like they do with any liquids and send it through separately. They never looked at my pump. The same thing happened on both legs of the trip. I guess it somewhat depends on who you get!
