Books for dads-to-be?

Do any of you have some good recommendations of books that expectant fathers might find beneficial? DH mentioned before that he'd be interested in reading one. He finds my copy of What to Expect When You're Expecting a bit cheesy. Any recommendations?

Re: Books for dads-to-be?

  • My husband bought The Expectant Father... but thinks its a little out dated.  He also ordered My Boys Can Swim... which is hilarious and has us both laughing out loud all the time.

  • I second "My Boys can Swim!"  DH loved it.
  • my boys can swim is good. if he's interested in a really serious type book then disregard this next recommendation, but I picked up "what to expect when you're expecting" for my husband and he thinks its hilarious.  it basically just makes fun of "what to expect" and is written to the fetus. yeah it's ridiculous but it was cracking both of us up. o and there is a fair share of foul language in it, as well... so if that would offend you/him skip it.

  • I bought "What to Expect When your Wife is Expanding." It seems pretty good but DH said that it's hard to tell what information is serious because it tries to joke around while being informative. I can say though that it's the only book that he's picked up so far (I know b/c I saw it by the potty the other day LOL). We also have "What to Expect When your Expecting" but that's more for me.

  • I've been wanting to pick up "The Baby Owner's Manual".  It looks pretty funny.  It reads kind of like a car owner's manual. lol.  The subtitle is "Operating Instructions, Troubleshooting Tips, and Advice of First Year Maintenance".

I got this for my DH and I was thumbing through it... it's actually very informative, but done in a fun way...

I recommend it! I bought mine from thinkgeek.com

  • I thumbed through "What to Expect When You're Expected" the other day, and it was pretty funny (but still had a decent amount of good info).  If I thought my DH would read a book, that'd probably be the one I'd pick.

As it is, I am probably best off putting post-it notes in the sports page or Sports Illustrated.  "This week's fruit size equivalent: blueberry" or "fun fact: this week, baby has a tail!"  (I hope this baby inherits my love of reading, he's not going to get it from his daddy, lol)

DH got this one and he likes it a lot so far. He's a mechanic, so the whole "car manual" format really appealed to him - haha!
