Hi Girls,
I was at BRU the other day perusing the breastfeeding aisle- YIKES. Talk about overwhelming.
They had nipple pads as well as shields (which were like hard plastic things). Besides not being disposable, what's the purpose of the shields vs. the pads, and which will you use?
Also, if you're using the pads, which brand/type are you getting?
TIA!
Re: Breast pads/shields?
Breast pads, I liked Gerber the best. I also got Lilypadz w/ DD1 while I worked so the pads weren't noticable with tighter shirts.
This time I have breast pads given to my by 3 friends and my sis - plus some I threw in a ziploc after I weened DD2. I have plenty to start with!
I heard from a new mom that the lansinoh has better sticky stuff to prevent sliding around in your bra than the modela. I'm sure I'll get some of both and decide which I like.
I was thinking about trying some of the washable/reusable ones. Any thoughts/experience?
I was just given several sets of washable ones that I will try as well. I personally didn't like any of the pads that are folded in the box (Lansinoh is), because you can still see that crease under your shirt!
These are my favorite breast pads. I found they work the best and dont show thru your bra when you wear something a little form fitting...some of the others are a bit bulkier and will look lumpy under your clothes.

ah- okay. I knew the pads were for absorbing leakage but didn't know what the shields were for. So yeah, they had the Lansinoh and Medela, a brand I'd never heard of, and then the washable kind.
I tried the reusable ones and didnt have the greatest luck. They didnt seem to absorb much and I ended up leaking all over the place.
...are itchy!
I recently started using these due to leakage and having to butter my nipples up thanks to sensitivity. Lame.
I recommend getting a few types and finding one that you like. I ended up going with reusable - the paper stuff of the others is just super itchy!
