Those wooden high chairs at restaurants

At what age did you first let your LO sit in those wooden high chairs at restaurants? Were you worried they'd "tip" over, or get tired having to sit up for so long with so little support?

(Also, if you have any tricks/tips, please let me know!)

Re: Those wooden high chairs at restaurants

  • We used one today for the the first time. Over all the meal came out fast, and LO did great.

  • DS2 has been sitting in them since he was able to sit up, so sine around 6 1/2 months. We have a fluffy high chair cover though so that helps. We also take a folded blanket to place around him. He never gets too tired, or at least I can't tell if he is.
  • DS was about 5 months, as soon as he started sitting unassisted.  He doesn't always last the whole meal in the high chair, but for most of the time we are eating.
  • 5.5 months when he was stable with sitting unassisted for long periods.  He did get restless and wanted to lean after about 20 minutes.  Around 6.5 months he did a lot better when we could keep him better occupied.  We take toys and give him finger foods to keep him happy.
  • first time at 7 or 8 months. She did good but we watched her very closely. We also bought one of those shopping cart covers that could be used in the highchairs.  We only used it the one time so it was kind of a waste of $, but if we ate out more often we would have used it more.

  • It was 7 months. We went out for breakfast today and he sits in the highchair the whole time with no problems.

  • Around 5.5 months. I got this little bolster at Ikea to make it more comfy, it was maybe $4?
  • when she was able to sit up unassisted for long periods of time which was around 6.5 months.  We use a fisher price cover for the high chair since she likes to put her mouth on everything.  Otherwise, if your little one is sitting well there should be no problems.

  • I honestly don't remember when we first started putting DS in restaurant highchairs.

Tips?  Don't plunk your LO in a highchair right away, try to stretch it out until your food comes. It allows you more time to eat since the novelty of the chair may wear off.  Other than that we bring toys, books and a small snack to keep him busy.

  • DS is 6 months old and uses them.  I use my shopping cart over as a pad/cushion for him, also so he doesn't try to eat the wood which I am sure is covered in germs.  He loves it.
