how to trim boy's hair ???

the only part I want to trim are the sides, right above the ear.  i've done it once and it resulted in a weird, blunt look that made it look thicker instead of flush against his head.  the length has become long again so not only does he have the bad trim I did first time around, but now it's over his ears.  any tips???  i want to do this myself.

    Look online and find pictures of boys haircuts that you like.  Use them as a guide (this is how I trim both DH and DS).

    ETA: make sure you have someone holding him, or have him completely distracted.

    okay so this is against my morals as a hair stylist (hehe) but i would hate to pay for somebody to just trim the sides a little, so grab the hair with the comb and then with ur left hand put the hair between your pointer finger and middle finger like this...

    then cut whats above ur fingers, be very careful not to cut your knuckle, it hurts.

    ...that should give you the "close" cut that you're looking for on the sides and back

    My husband made a weird blunt cut today above his ear.  It looks terrible!  I then figured out that if you take the scissors and use the very point to cut 'into' the pieces, it looks more natural.  The blunt cut isn't a good look!!  Big Smile  Hope that makes sense.

    really?  that's it?!  thank you for sharing :)  the last time i did it, i cut it without touching it...i just followed the natural curve...   maybe that's why it looked retarded.
