not doing a birth plan??
I asked my OB about it when I was probably like 16 weeks and she said don't even worry about it because we (as patients) are able to labor however we want up until delivery. and in her opinion and experience (she's been an OB for over 20 years) that doing a birth plan is jinxing yourself for everything to NOT go your way.. - she told me if I wanted something done my way to just express that, or make sure SO knows to tell in case I can't for some reason..
I just feel so outta the loop by not doing one! lol.
Re: am I the only one
Honestly, you can plan all you want, but you have no control over the situation. I guess if there are specific things you want (like not clamping the cord, no pitocin after the birth, etc) it's good to let them know, but other than that I don't see a need.
My friend told me that it was so annoying to have the nurses in her face asking questions all the time when she was trying to be calm and stay focused. This made my decision to make one.
I am worried about DH giving all the details the way I'd hope. He's not a detail oriented person and it drives me crazy. Haha!
Ultimately, it's whatever you feel comfortable with in your own situation.
ETA: I'm also going in with a very open mind knowing that some things (maybe nothing) will go in my favor. The only thing I'm really particular about is that I am given the opp. to BF within the 1st hour.
Nope, you're not the only one not doing a birth plan. I'm not either - unless you consider just wanting to get the baby out with everybody healthy a "birth plan"!
DD#1 is 3! And LO#2 is on his/her way! Due Feb 26th, 2014.

BFP#2: m/c 10/29/2012 EDD was 6/21/2012 Baby Hope was 6 weeks 3 days.
BFP#3: Twin B stopped growing at 8 weeks and 5 days. Found on 8/10/2014. EDD was 2/26/2014. Twin A is still doing great and due date is 2/26/14.
no you're not! i didn't for DD, and i won't for DS either. I made my preferences known, and DH and i discussed the things we hoped for ahead of time, and that was it. we were induced, and almost had an emergency c-section, but were able to avoid it. my OB and the nurses were hapy and willing to go along with any requests we had
I asked to BF asap, and in our case, that was no problem
hope it works out for you too!
yayyy.. i definitely don't feel alone now!
and yeah, I really don't have very many requests.. just simple things like delayed clamping/cutting, SO will cut, I want her on my chest ASAP, and will want to BF as soon as possible.. and that's about it! As long as SO and my mom are in the room with me I could care less about what else goes on!
The Nutty Life
DD2 8.22.13
MMC 1.4.17 at 16w
Expecting #3, EDD 1.29.18
Anything that I feel strongly about (mainly, I want to go med-free and EBF if possible) has already been discussed with my MW and noted in my patient chart. Anything else is either not a huge concern to me, or I don't know enough to request it - ie never would have thought about lighting until I got to this thread!.
