doctors contradicting each other- waking to eat

So my pediatrician said to keep waking LO every three hours to eat until he reaches 10lbs.  However, we went to see the neonatologists regarding his apena monitor and they said to stop waking him to eat every three hours since he has been gaining weight so rapidly.  He went from 6lbs to 8lbs in 21 days:)  What advice did you get?  Thanks!

  • Mine said that we could stop waking to eat every 3 hours when they were about 2.5 months old and 7-8lbs. We still woke to eat every 3 horus during the day but we let them go at night. They still woke on their own every 4-5ish.

  • I was never told to wake him but I woke him every 4 hours until he hit about the 7 pound mark.  Usually he woke on his own. Then I let him wake on his own since he was gaining great. He is now sleeping up to 6 hours at night. During the day he wakes every 3-4 hours to eat.
A small start at 2lb 9oz, 60 day NICU stay, and 6 months of O2 My 30 weeker is growing up! <a href="http://s83.photobucket.com/albums/j320/bippy798/?action=view
  • We woke her up 3 hours until she was home for about a month, but she seemed like she needed her sleep so we just started letting her sleep through the night.
  • DS was born at 3lb. 11oz. and discharged at 5lb. 7oz after 27 days.  The neonatologist and pedi agreed to feed every 3-4hrs. and only wake if 4hrs. has passed.  I think we only had to wake DS one time, otherwise he woke on his own.
