Do You Think It's Rude...

...to bring a snack to a wedding for just in case?  I know, it sounds REALLY tacky!  The bride and groom would be okay with it (close friends and the groom is a doctor so he gets it), I just don't want to offend their families or other guests or anyone if they see.  I'm not talking about whipping out a Big Mac in the middle of the ceremony...just a couple of granola bars tucked in my purse and eaten discreetly at my table or in the ladies' room or somewhere if my blood sugar gets low.  I will be 29 weeks by then and it's going to be pretty long...like 3 pm til late into the evening.  Thoughts?

Re: Do You Think It's Rude...

  • I don't think its rude at all! A pregnant girl has to eat! And especially since your being so gracious about it. Good idea :)

  • Not at all!  I have snacks w/ me all the time!  Granted I have a 2 & 4 yo, but I eat them sometimes too!
  • I don't think its rude at all - I have been to too many weddings where the food is delayed for whatever reason and you end up going hours and hours without eating, which of course I don't mind, but possibly would being pregnant. Personally I think its a very smart idea.
  • Totally fine! If you feel uncomfrotable eating it in public just dip into the restrooms. I honestly don't think anyone would say a thing anyways.
  • Wait, the wedding is going to be that long?   Are they not serving any food at the reception or something?  To answer your question,  yes, it's pretty tacky.
  • Why do you think it is rude?  Even if I wasn't pregnant, I might pack a snack or something to eat because I get low blood sugar.  I think you will be fine, especially if you eat it outside or in the bathroom not in/during the ceremony.
  • Not rude...  it's a very smart idea and I don't think anyone will even notice.

  • I would for sure bring some snacks. The last thing you want is to pass out or get sick. Like you said its not like your going to have a Big Mac in the ceremony right in the middle of the ring exchange. (That would be very funny story though)

  • There is dinner at the reception.  My stomach's been doing some...interesting things with this pregnancy, to put it delicately, so been trying to space out eating small amounts rather than eating big meals.  It may be okay, I just obsessively plan for all contingencies Smile

That's kind of what I was thinking Smile  Passing out would be beyond embarrassing and draw attention where as sneaking into the bathroom for a snack...much less so!

  • I would take a snack, but maybe "step out" to eat it instead of having it at your table.  Can you snack between the wedding and reception as well?  Are they are the same place or do you have to drive from the wedding to the reception?  That would be a good time to snack!

They're at the same place but the entire thing is outdoors and in the country so there are plenty of places to wander off for a few minutes

Perfect.  I definitely vote for the snack.  Like a PP said, it's better to have your snack than take the chance of getting sick or even passing out.

  • Not at all!  I had to eat a granola bar at a funeral recently.  Don't forget to bring a bottle of water too!

  • I think it would be better than you having to leave in the middle of the wedding because you don't feel well.  If the bride and groom are ok, don't worry about anyone else!  Like you said, as long as you're not smacking your food during vows, no problems.

I'd definitely take a snacking pregnant lady over a sick/grumpy one!

  • It's not rude unless you pull it out and start smacking away as they say their vows. LOL. In fact, I wish I had done this during my first pregnancy. My neighbors were married on the top of a mountain (I had to ride a chair lift---eep) when I was about 11 weeks along and the reception food was delayed for HOURS while they took literally millions of pictures on the mountain. There were appetizers, but they were either stuff I hated or stuff I couldn't eat (like soft cheese). So it was a long time before the food was served (like 9 PM) and I remember dying. I also had done IVF, so we had to sneak off to get a shot while there, so the whole thing was interesting and unpleasant. Heh.

  • I dont know anyone who would have a problem with a pregnant woman snacking. I always carry a baggie of cereal in my purse and had to eat a little during church on easter, no one gave me any side eyes.

  • I dont think its rude at all! I take snacks in my purse everywhere I go! Plus I keep them stratigically placed throughout my house lol. DO what youve gotta do girl!

  • I don't think it's rude at all!  Bring the snacks.  If you're eating in front of other people, I'd make sure to bring quiet & non-messy snacks.
  • Even before I got pregnant I always carried a granola bar in my bag in case my blood sugar got low and I felt shaky.

Sometimes you go a long time w/out eating at a wedding, so I'd definitely bring something with you. You could even put a few hard candies in your bag to eat during the ceremony if you need something right away.

  • Not rude and really smart thinking!

  • Are they not serving food, cake????  I personally would eat before I left the house/hotel to tie me over through the ceremony.  I assume that they will have dinner and cake, so I would carry some candy (snickers bar - peanuts for protein & fat, also sugar) or a granola bar just in case.
  • Not rude at all, you'll need it!  We went to an evening wedding 2 weeks ago at a country club - I went into the ladies locker room and had a granola bar and a juice box :-)  Glad I brought them too since most of the appetizers were either seafood (I don't like) or had soft cheeses in them so I wouldn't have eaten them anyway!
