So.... there are so many posts on her complianing about getting lots of random stuff and clothes and things that are not as useful.
I just wanted to say that it is not always like that. I literally did not get 1 gift that was not off one of my registries, money, or a gift card (for the 2 stores I registered at).
I just thought I would post to tell people not to assume anything. The generosity of people is amazing.
Also, for hostess gifts, here is what I did (and it went over really well). For my MIL and SIL (they hosted shower 1) I got them each a pound of high end coffee from a local organinic shop, double dark chocolate covered espresso beans, handmade/organic biscotti, coffee flavored hand wash and lotion (beige/brown also matches their houses), and sashets from a little local store in nice antique lace that are linen smell (just because I know both of them love sachets). They love coffee, so this gift made sense for both.
For my Aunts and best friend (hosted shower 2)... I got best friend a caldera difusser (she loves this brand of smelly stuff and loves difussers) and a gift card to a pediure. Aunt 1 I got 2 books that I know she wanted to read and a super cute bookmark. Aunt 3 I got a gift card to an organic market that she loves, some super tasty vegan candy, a vegan muffin mix, and vegan lip gloss (she has been vegan since 1976, so this is important to her).
Anyways-- they all liked their gifts.
Re: My friends and family followed registry:)
I think the trick is to put plenty of things on the registry in a lot of different price ranges. The only time I strayed from buying from the registry was when there were no items available in the price range I was willing to spend or if the store was at a location I was unwilling to go to due to distance.
For my shower I got a ton of clothes (even though I did not have anything on the registry) - people like buying clothes for babies but they were side gifts along with something from my registry, for the most part.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I just had my shower last Saturday. I did not have one item of clothing on my registry, yet 75% of the guests got me clothes and mostly in the 0 - 3 or 3 - 6 month sizes. He has more outfits than he'll ever wear.... I was really hoping to get some "necessities" but still appreciate everyone coming and brining me a gift. It was really fun!
i have very understanding friends and family and a very overbearing, naagie, crazy italian mother who plans on letting everyone know that i took the time to do a registry for a reason and that i will appreciate getting the things i need more than getting the gifts they want to get me. plus i was very fair in distributing price ranges and using local stores. nobody wants to have to answer to my mom...lol!
