Do you use vaseline/baby powder every change?

I'm just curious what everyone else does. I normally don't do it every change. I do it maybe 3 times a day.

  • I don't use either for any changes.  I used vaseline when the circumcisions were healing, but thats it.

  • Well, you aren't supposed to use baby powder at all (not good for their lungs). But no, I don't use anything unless there is a rash (which we haven't had yet)

I don't use baby powder either, but I know some ppl do. That is why I threw it in there. I didn't know it wasn't good for their lungs though.

Yeah, the particles fly around and get in their lungs. Its now considered a "no-no"

This.  I occasionally use a bit of powder after poo dipes.  I feel like if I were him I'd welcome a bit of extra freshness.

  • DD has a small diaper rash and the Dr said to do 3 steps.

Put vaseline on first, then desitin, then baby powder.

I'm super careful with the powder since I have heard of it getting in baby's lungs. So far so good.

I do it everytime until the rash clears up, then I will maybe do it every other time.

  • The cornstarch based baby powder is better to use than the talc based one.

  • nothing just wipe with cloth wipes  soaked in gentle baby soap and olive oil. No rashes at all since we have switched to cloth.

  • nope. we don't use anything aside from just wiping.?
  • I use Vaseline at every changing but we use cloth diapers ... they don't have the super duper barrier gels, etc. that the disposables have. My pedi said to use it because its a great barrier between Zaila's skin and the urine/poo. No diaper rash ever!
  • I stocked up on Desitin, Butt Paste and A&D but haven't used it yet. Hopefully DD will not ever need that stuff. So far no rashes so I have just wiped the bum with wipes before diapering her.

I use A&D about 2x a day to protect from moisture, esp in her rolls
  • We don't even have baby powder in our house - our Pediatrician advised us not to use it .... however, we do have both Vaseline and Aquafore and I put one or the other only after I clean him up after a BM.  Also whenever he has had a diaper rash.

  • I've used California Baby non-talc powder, and kinda just pat it on.  Liam doesn't seem to complain :p

  • i vaseline about 2-3 times a day. my husband does it everytime. i don't use baby powder at all.
  • We haven't had a rash yet (knock on wood) but I put cream on every night before bed because he sleeps 12 hours.
  • I rarely use zinc ointment on Charlie. I try to let him air dry each diaper change, and I use cloth wipes most of the time, when we are out, I use sensitive wipes. The chemicals in the diapers and wipes combined with not letting LO air dry, is just asking for diaper rash.
