Introducing bottle

So we introduced the bottle with Cam at around 4 weeks and gave it to him every other day or so, but I had supply issues and quickly had no built up stash.

Sooooo those of you that have successfuly introduced the bottle, how often did you give it to them ?

Once I'm back at work he will only get the bottle twice a week !

    We just introduced Dominic to the bottle for the first time tonight.  I'm planning on working my way up in volume daily the way we did with Grace.  Tonight we started with 1/4oz and he wasn't having it at all.  Luckily it's such a small amount when it doesn't get finished I'm not blowing my whole stash!  With Grace it only took a couple of days to get the hang of downing it from a bottle and we continued giving an oz or two daily then she'd top off at the boob.  I'm hoping this technique works for us again.

    So you only did 1/4 of an oz out of the bottle each time or just the first time ?

    I think I did a full bottle feeding with Cameron, so maybe just 1 oz out of the bottle every other day then top him off ?

    I keep it at 1/4 oz until they stop fighting and pushing the nipple out (2-3 trys.)  When he starts to suck and not gag a million times then I'll up it to 1/2oz. until he takes it all easily then go 1-2oz/day until about 2 weeks before I go back to work.  Then I go to the full 4-5oz bottles for a few days to see how much he'll actually drink in one sitting so I know how much on average I'll need to set up per bottle for grandma's house.  With Grace she was drinking about 3.5oz/bottle feeding when I went back to work.

    DS only got a bottle ~1/week from 1 month of age until I went back to work at ~4 mos, and he did fine.  But he's 19 pounds at 4 months, so clearly feeding isn't an issue for him.  Wink

    I'd say we average 1 bottle a week.

    Just make sure you keep giving it because we didn't and it's probably been 4-5 weeks now and tonight we tried and there was NO way he was taking it!

    What do we do now?

    ETA: It hasn't been that long!  DAMN, It's only been like 2 weeks!  He was taking the bottle so easily I didn't think it would be an issue at all.  It's like he gags on the nipple, won't clamp down and suck at all.

    We introduced the bottle by giving her one feeding each day.  I would go upstairs and pump for 10 minutes, and put whatever I pumped out in the bottle.  She typically finished the bottle each time.  DH would give her the bottle, so he got to have a little bonding time as well.
