I head that gripe water takes care of both ends of the gas problem while mylicon only takes care of the burping any truth to this? Oh and if you used both what do you prefer I've been using mylicon but it's not all that wonderful for him.
My brother (who is a pedi) insisted that we not use Mylicon because too much can cause stomach problems. Actually, he insist that nothing really works for colic other than time.

A lot of people think colic is gas but it's not. I wouldn't use mylicon for colic because it simply won't help. The gripe water has calming herbs in it which is why it can help with colic.
I use Gripe Water with DS before he goes down for the night because gas often keeps him up. I use Mylicon twice a day. He has major gas so this works pretty well for us.
ETA: the Mylicon doesn't help w/burping but it gives him major farts which helps a lot.

Yeah I know that colic isn't gas and no one knows what causes it. Colic is hell on earth. LOLOLOL. I am using gripe water at night too. It is helping with the gas issue Matthew has. My brother just does not recommend Mylicon for anything. And although I find him to be a complete goofball I trust his professional opinion so we just stay away from it.

my ped. said they don't recommend gripe water b/c it isn't fda approved. they said that mylicon has mixed results, but if we have to use something to use that. we asked about each regarding gas only, our LO doesn't have colic.
and for us, the mylicon does seem to help our LO pass gas/fart. he's always been a good burper, so we see no change in that.
