Postpartum Depression

More for anxiety....

Those of you with anxiety/nervousness/agitation....what does it feel like for you?

I wake up with my heart beating fast, and it does it all day.  Not sure if it slows down when I sleep.  I can barely sit still, irritable, and feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest at times.  I have an incredibly nervous stomach/feeling, can't eat, and sometimes feel lightheaded and detached.  Anyone else?  Are these things SSRI's help with?  I am having anxiety just thinking about taking these.

Re: More for anxiety....

  • You have a lot of questions. :) Have you discussed all of this with a doctor? I would suggest seeing if you can talk to a psychiatrist. I know that may sound weird, but they are specialized in treating these types of things, and know more about the medicines/side effects/treatments than any of us would. I think it would give you some peace of mind.

  • I am talking with someone!  I know, I am desperate for answers.  But is this how your anxiety felt?  I appreciate your help.
  • While we may all feel similar symptoms, everyone is different. Please give the Lexapro time to work.
  • Yes, yes and yes!!!! That's a lot how my anxiety felt when I was pregnant. It was terrible. I felt like I was constantly on "high-alert" just waiting for something terrible to happen. I would also clench my jaw, which was odd, but I did it and it would just ache so bad!

But, once I got my ssri on the right dosage, things went back to normal. However, reading about your symptoms make me remember all too well. I'm sorry you are experiencing this, and I'm glad you are seeing someone about it. Just keep telling yourself that you are normal and this will pass.

  • I don't know if this is the same anxiety you are feeling, but I have struggled with OCD and was "symptom" free for almost 3 years, until the 3rd trimester hit me.  It got really really bad and now that my baby is here, it's still here and its ruling my life.  The anxiety I feel, is just a feeling of unrest, unsettling, worried, it consumes my thoughts and I feel really uneasy. Until I get up and take care of whats worrying me.  I was on Lexapro with my last baby three years ago and it seemed to help, but I hated the "weaning" off. It was really weird.  I am willing to take medication if necessary, because its ruling my life and my family.
  • You need meds, i personally suggest zoloft or prozac. i have never taken prozac but have heard its pretty good. Also suggest to your dr. about maybe taking xanex to calm you down!! I know alot of dr.'s dont like to prescribe xanex b/c it can be come addicting. Deff talk to your dr. anxiety can overrule your life & you cant let it!! I've unfort. dealt with it a couple of times and i absolutely HATE it!! its just so painful. Mine burns from the inside of my chest up to my shoulders down thru my arms to my finger tips & i swear my heart is beating out of my chest but when i feel my pulse it's really ?not.?
