Waterbirth views and Spray Tans?

What do all of you think of waterbirths? If you've had one, did you like it? Would you recommend it? Not recommend it?

And spray tans! What have all of you heard about them? I heard it was okay if it was a certain type? I'm not really educated on this stuff, so sorry if it's a stupid question haha!

TIA :]

Re: Waterbirth views and Spray Tans?

  • I got spray tan once pre-pregnancy and it looked good, but I smelled like the spray tan stuff for a week no matter how many showers I took. I probably wouldn't do one again - and I really don't think I'd get one while pregnant.

  • I would absolutely love to do a water birth and plan to do one with either my next pregnancy or the one after (DF and I would like to have 3 kids lol). Everyone I've heard from that had one said it was the best experience ever- I haven't really heard anything bad about them.
As for the spray tanning... summer's right around the corner.. why not just tan outside? If there is some danger in spray tanning might as well avoid it and just slather suncreen on and lay in the sun. JMO though.. I'm not much for spray tanning lol.

I would love to, except I can't for two reasons: 1. I live in Alaska, haha. and 2. I'm full Irish so I have that pale, untanable, burning skin. I wouldn't dream of getting a spray tan while pregnant though, but I was wondering if anyone else had done it. :]

Oooh gotcha yeah I just noticed you're in Alaska haha! Sorry. Well spray tanning might work for ya, just be smart about it- I have too many friends who went "spray tan crazy" and now look like carrots. Haha~

Haha! There was a girl who lives here that did that once. I would be so embarrassed! I probably wont get a spray tan... but I am kinda getting sick of being teased for how pale I am. :/

  • I am giving birth at a birth center and have the option of a water birth.  I want to labor in the tub for sure, and if I am in the tub and feel like pushing I might as well just go for the water birth.  I don't have my heart set on it, I am just going to go with the flow and whatever frankly makes me feel the best at the time.
  • Haha DF and I have a contest to see who is darker by the end of summer and this summer he has a head start because he works outside so he's already dark! I'm stuck in the house on bed rest so I'm sooo pale! Not fair.. :-)

  • The idea of a waterbirth grosses me out. I mean, the idea of being in the water sounds nice and relaxing, but I would not want to be in the water with all that nastiness floating around me. Poop and all sorts of bodily fluids--Yuck!

  • Spray tans: Most are safe. Obviously address the question to your doctor first, and you may want to look up the actual solution the booth or person is using through the company, but the majority of sprays are safe, and a re geared specifically for people with your skin! The smell does sometimes bother people, but the "fumes" are safe. GL and I hope you look fantastic and not orange at all!
  • I have tried 3 times to have a water birth, but end up beside it with cold water in it because I labour too fast. Anyway, I have been to about 20 waterbirths and mostly people think they are great. We always have a fish net for "floaties", which BTW don't add up to much stuff unless you are still in there after the placenta detaches. We have a foot wash with a bit of bleach in it so mom and dad can have clean feet as they come and go. I suggest getting the smaller of the three ring blow up tubs with fishies on them so that it is easier to keep it the right temperature and also it is nice to have something to push your feet against on the other side. A blow up bottom is a must or else your knees hurt.  We put a hot water heater underneath them to help keep heat.  I assume it doesn't take so much prep if you are having the baby in a birth center or hospital...

The most incredible part that I love is that the baby is so peaceful after birth. They tend not to cry, but look around in the quiet, dark room and quietly unfold in the water. It gives me goose bumps to see.

Sorry, probably too much information. Just gets me excited :)

We are having a home birth, and will have the option of water birth available. I really think I want to try it though, its really the only thing that has struck a chord with me.

  • Im planning a waterbirth. Im expecting my first so I dont have any personal experience to go off of yet, but my midwife is really glad that it is a part of my plan. She says that hardly any of her waterbirth mamas have tears, and that they usually cope with the pain better because of the relaxation from being in the water and being bouyant(SP I know that is wrong sorry)

And as for the spray tan, I was told that they are fine as long as the smell doesnt bother you

  • I got a spray tan for my wedding a few years ago.  It turned out fine, but I asked her to go kind of easy, not super dark.  I got lots of compliments.  It was kind of weird, though.  The place I went a lady sprays you.  I think there are other places where it's a machine.  but with my experience she sprays you so wear dark underwear (if you're going to wear any).  I went topless which was of course kind of weird. But she was professional and really watched what she was doing to make sure it looked even.  the only downside was it only lasted for a few days.  also, after a shower with white towels I could see some of it rubbing off.  But overall I was pleased.  but it was for a one day occassion.  Also, I thought it was kind of pricey, maybe $15 and as I said it only lasts a few days.  A tanning salon tan will last much longer, but of course that's quite bad for you.
