3rd Trimester

So now I'm going to worry all weekend :(

UGH!  I was helping set up for a friend's bridal shower when I got a voicemail from one of the OBs at my practice.  Mind you it's 6:30 on a Friday evening when I get this.  She said she was looking through my chart (my last visit was Wednesday) and wants me to call on Monday to make an appointment for an ultrasound.  She said it's nothing to worry about.  OF COURSE I WORRY!!!  My thought is that they want to make sure LO is growing ok since according to my last visit, I hadn't gained any weight since my visit 2 weeks before that.  I tried returning the call, but the number is busy so I figure it's off for the weekend.  DH told me to rest assured and if it was something they were concerned about they would have told me to get looked at right away.  Any reassuring thoughts?

  • I don't know, but that's pretty crappy of your dr. :(

  • I agree with your DH.  If it was serious they wouldn't have you wait. However I think your OB is kind of a dbag.  She so could have handled this differently.  Like you said of course you are going to worry!

This, I do agree with your DH too, I would hope that your Dr. would send you in to get everything checked out if it were something that was a bigger deal! Try to relax, I know easier said than done! GL :(

  • If she was really worried she'd have you come to L & D to be monitored or something.  Maybe they need to get your Strep test done or something simple like that!

  • Oh and I wouldn't worry about the weight too much.  I lost 4 lbs between 30 and 32 weeks and another 2 between 32 and 34.  At my 36 week appt I had gained 2 lbs. My midwives weren't concerned and said weight is different for everyone in 3rd tri.  Some gain, some stay the same and some lose.  Maybe your dr is just overly cautious which can be good thing!

  • I wouldn't worry either if they said it's nothing to worry about...but I can't believe they would call you at that time and day and stress you out like that!  The last month, I barely gained anything and it wasn't because DD wasn't growing.  She was 7lbs 10oz.  I'm sure everything is ok.

Thanks.  I just have NO idea what they want to look at.  I was told at my last appointment that my chart is pretty boring because I don't have any health concerns so when I'm called on a Friday evening to schedule an ultrasound, of course I'm immediately concerned.  Thanks for the advice :)

  • While I think that your doctor definitely could [and should] have handled that phone call a lot differently to avoid stressing you out, I wouldn't worry too much. Like PP's have said, if it was serious they wouldn't have you wait.

For the record, I went into my 31.5 week appointment and measured 2 weeks behind, plus I hadn't gained any weight since February, so my doctor scheduled me for a growth U/S for this morning. I stressed out for the whole week leading up until today. Went in and everything looks perfect, LO is growing right on track and she's already 4lbs 8oz. [: So try not to worry so much, they're just making sure everything's a-okay.

This exactly.  Try not to worry excessively b/c like others have said, if it was something really serious or they thought something could be wrong medically or otherwise they would have asked you to come in right away.  If it is driving you nuts you could always try calling and leaving a message w/the answering service that you need the doc to call you back.

  • my doctor told me that I would have an ultrasound around 36 weeks, to size the baby and see if she is head down. Im assuming that this is what your doctor was calling to schedule.

I wouldnt worry, no point in stressing LO out. like pp's have said if it is something important they would have made sure to get in contact with you... I also wouldnt worry about lack of weight gain, as long as your doing your kick counts and they are going good thats whats important...

     Good luck :)
