  • Yep, DS does this all the time.  Sometimes for quite awhile too.

  • I put DS down awake-awake for naps and bedtime so usually he has some wind-down time. Anywhere from 5 min to 20+. As long as he's content and not crying, I leave him be.
  • Gianna isn't walking yet, but she does play for a bit both while winding down for naps and bedtime.  Maybe 5-10 minutes at most.  I let her do this as long as she needs to.  I don't interviene at all.

  • Lately 20-30+ minutes.  He's not crying (he's playing), so he's fine.  Just like adults they all fall asleep at different rates.  Not to mention he needs his alone time.
  • His bedtime "routine" includes at least half an hour of play every night, unless he is dead tired. Usually we bathe him, lotion, clothes, play, bottle, crib. If he's not getting a bath we just start at clothes. :)

We do try and limit the amount of noisy toys at night though, we tend to stick with practicing skills (walking and standing now) and silent toys like stuffed animals and/or books. B's the type that needs wind-down time, if we tried to put him in the crib without it (like we stupidly did when he was younger) he just screams bloody murder for an hour (no matter how present we are).

  • he always plays in his crib before naps. I think it's adorable -- much better than crying! a few times, he has played in there for an hour happily. it amazes me that he can occupy himself for that long since he usually is pretty needy, but if he's happy, why stop him?

This. She is 99% of the time asleep by 10 minutes.
