Pregnant after a Loss

Partial placenta previa

My dr told me they found at my NT scan that I have a partial placenta previa. She told me not to be concerned and it should resolve its self as my uterus grows. It still worries me, though. What if it doesn't resolve? Did anyone else have this early on and then it resolved? The more I read about it in my books, the more worried I get!

Re: Partial placenta previa

  • I had it early with both pregnancies.  With the twins I was bleeding at 15ish weeks, and they said the placenta previa was irritating my cervix.  By the time I was admitted at 19 weeks 5 days, it had moved up.

With this pregnancy, at my cervix check at 14 weeks... I had partial.  My peri was VERY sure it would move up because I was so early and it was only partially over it.  By my big u/s at 18 weeks it was WAY up and away.

It is very common to have it early.  My peri said to imagine a balloon.  If you put a mark on a balloon, then blow it up.... the point moves away from the original point.  Same thing with your placenta.

  • I think Lynn (cowgirl) has it. She is on pelvic rest until 26w, I think.

  • Thank you soooo much Andrea!!! It really freaked me out. My dr also told me that having a D&C increases the risk. Wish I had known that before!

  • I had it, and it was also diagnosed at my NT scan.  It resolved by 28 weeks!  I was put on pelvic rest (which I was already on anyway), including no O.

    GL!

Seriously!  That's strange they don't tell people this.

I don't know much about PP, but just wanted to send ((Hugs)) and say I hope everything is okay.

  • I had a coworker that had it with last pg and it resolved itself but I don't know what the timeframe was on that. Another coworker told me her sister had it with both pg's and it did not resolve itself so she had c-sections. And if I'm not mistaken she is a nurse and they did not put her on any activity restriction. I know there is some debate as to whether or not activity level really affects it.

I would say trust your doctor and if he is positive about it then you have reason to be too!

Yea... you are so early, and it is only partial... it should move.  I had full with the twins and it had moved by 19 weeks 5 days.

You *might* have some bleeding from it, so don't freak out if you do (if that is even possible).  I did with the twins (although I had bleeding pretty much the whole pregnancy, so who knows if it was truely from placenta previa), but not with this pregnancy.  The bleeding is from the placenta irritating your cervix, not from baby.

Thanks. Did the dr put you on pelvic rest at all? One of the drs said I should to be on the safe side, but the other said it wasn't necessary. I'm following the first dr to be on the safe side, but I was just curious.

They did for the twins.  They were going to recheck it at my big u/s, but I was admitted 4 days before my u/s.

I am on pelvic rest for this entire pregnancy, so he didn't say this time around... because I already am.  I assume he would have if I wasn't already on it, since they did last time.
