Anyone use Similac Sensitive RS (for spit up)?

It has been *wonderful* as far as reducing DS's spitting up (from 15+ times a day to maybe 1!) - but we're having a horrible time with clogged nipples.  I read online that it's thicker and grainier, so I guess this makes sense, but I don't know what to do.

We've tried two different kinds of bottles and nipples, we've switched nipples after mixing the formula, we've mixed in one bottle and then transfered to another. . .honestly!  But every time it clogs several times during a feeding, DS gets frustrated, and gives up.

Anyone else deal with this?  Any tips or tricks?

  • Yep; I use the same formula... I got the Dr Browns' formula pitcher mixer and it solved this issue! :-)

  • We have had to use faster flow nipples (like 6+ months). We use gerber bottles and avent bottles and they worked well but we still get clumps and have to squish the nipples to unclog them.
  • We use the same formula, as DS had reflux - but our Gastro Doctor told us specifically to get the Ready To Feed for this reason.  We love it.  Sure, it has to be kept in the fridge and is more expensive, but it is easy and fast to make the bottle.

  • We use it to supplement. If I pre-mix and shake it up (but don't use it for hours) it mixes well. I use Medela medium flow.

If I mix and swirl, it doesn't mix well and it clogs : (

  • We pre-mix, shake, then swirl immediately before feeding. We use the NUK size 1 nipples (medium flow) and they never get clogged. Even my SO can mix it without a problem! :D

  • I have been using Enfamil RA, which I guess is the equivalent... but to combat clogs I have mixed part RA formula with part regular, because just using the RA formula, even with the #2 Dr. Brown's nipples we were having issues.
