moms of boys (or maybe girls?)

I need to get DS1 a rash guard to keep at school for the summer. I don't want to spend too much money since it will be the designated school-wear so it's going to get messed up, but on the other hand I don't want it to be a piece of junk and have to get replaced half way through summer. Also, DS has a super ginormous head so the neck hole can't be too tight. I would *prefer* long sleeved, but the above are a higher priority.

With all that in mind - where would you shop?

  • Walmart has SPF 50 rash guards...not sure about long sleeved or big neck hole BUT they are under $10 (from what I remember)....I got a Sponge Bob one last year for my nephew.

  • Ours isn't long-sleeved, but DS's is from Target. He used it all last summer and will use it this year again. I think Old Navy has had long sleeved in the past. We've had one from there before and it held up fine.
  • I've gotten them from target, old navy and carters. Definitlr ling sleeved from old navy last year.
  • We've had good luck with the long sleeve rash guards from Old Navy (they've held up great through two boys and will be passed down to #3).  I don't think I paid more than $10 for each.

  • We've always gotten DS's rash guard shirts from Carters (outlet) or BJs for $10 or less each.  DS has a big head as well and I've had luck getting one size larger - his head fits through and the shirt isn't big enough that the size difference is hugely noticeable. It also helps offset any mid-season growth spurts.

We have also been buying them bigger which helps them to last for more than one summer and helps with a big head.  I also get mine from Target and they hold up great but no long sleeves.  I just got one and it as $7.99.
