Just Did Something Really Lazy

I have a bridal shower to go to in a couple weeks, and instead of going to pick up the gift at Crate and Barrell, Bed Bath & Beyond, or Macy's (where the bride is registered), all of which are in the city, I paid the extra $20 for shipping.  I'm splitting it with someone so it's really only $10.  I just kept thinking what a mad house the Macy's in the city is, how I don't feel like lugging heavy dishes home from anywhere, etc., and how my acu keeps telling me to be "kind to myself" during the 2ww!

I hate shopping- so to me, it's worth it to have it delivered.

OrangeSmoke - do you remember from living in the city what that whole Macy's area is like?  It's h*ll on earth, IMO.  Like Times Square on steroids.

H*lll on earth is exactly how I would describe it.  Ironically, DH always tells me how that's his favorite store from when he was single, cuz he can go in there and do all his Christmas shopping in one store.

Speaking of that area, I've officially cut myself off from commuting.  So no more Penn Station for me!!!!  I can't be more thrilled...

  • My time and reprieve from aggravation is worth the $20.
  • I don't think that is lazy, I think it's smart. I often pay for shipping but most of the 'good malls' are about 45 min - 1 hour away from me, so with gas expenses and time the shipping is usually worth it for me.

    Not lazy, smart:)

I'm working from home.  Had a little scare this week that landed me in L&D on Tuesday, so I cut myself off.  Amazingly my douche-tastic department head was ok with it.  They've had a lot of trouble coming up with a plan for my maternity coverage, so I think he just wants me to work for as long as possible.

It's a pretty sad story though in my dept with respect to women coming back from mat leave.  Almost everyone I knew that were on the fast track is now being forced out or take a really crappy role.  So i'm thinking I'm going to be looking for a new job come next year!

I hope everything's OK now?  What happened (if you want to talk about it)?

That's total cr*p about women in your dept.  Even though it's illegal to do that since it's discrimination, it still happens unfortunately and women still end up having to choose between career and family.

Labor and delivery - don't worry, you'll learn a whole new set of lingos soon enough.  I was having some pretty intense contractions, but thank goodness my cervix is still long and closed.  They called it "irritable uterus" and told me to cut back on my activities.

I've almost made peace with the fact that I won't have a *real* job when I come back.  I've been thinking about leaving for quite a while now (and would have if our last cycle didn't work out).  We had a big management change last year and the culture has been a complete boys club ever since.  All of my friends and mentors have already left and hopefully by the time I come back I'll have some pretty good contacts.  Oh the joys of working in an investment bank!
