We've always been really big with both of the boys about using good manners. We stay on them to use please and thank you, and we don't say "move" or "look out", we say excuse me. So lately, DS2 has been saying "beep-beep" when someone is in his way. I know he's getting it from school. So the thing is, it's not really that horrible of a thing to say to 2 year olds, but personally I just prefer to him to say excuse me (which he used to, and still will if you remind him after saying beep beep). So would you say something to the director to ask that the teachers say excuse me instead of beep-beep, or is that being totally overbearing??
I'm half way expecting a flame for this.....
Re: Would this make me "that mom"?
LOL i'm all about manners but this isn't discussion worthy.
He's two, its not a big deal and when you hear him say it you can just say "beep beep PLEASE" lol
no flames,
but Yeah that would make you "that mom".
I sort of believe "school rules" and "house rules" don't always have to mesh, and at 2 its still hard to figure out which is which, but keep enforcing it at home and it will click.
I just think if every parent came in with "you know, at home we___________, can you do that here too" it would be a nightmare for teachers.
what she said
no flames either, but ditto DandR.
Very good point. Rationally, that's the kind of stuff I keep telling myself, but then I hear him say beep-beep and I cringe. I need to just learn to let it go.
Note to self: I have enough things to worry about, this isn't one of them!
totally! They always say, "don't sweat the small stuff!"
Yeah, that I can see that conversation going really well with my 27 month old! LOL sorry
It's overbearing, sorry. Just remind him to say excuse me. At some point, he will start saying beep-beep at school, and excuse me at home.
I don't know. I moved in with my DH and skids when the youngest was two. We have different rules at our house than they do at their mom's (as in, we have rules...) and even when he was that young, we just said, "We don't do/say that at our house." It did usually take a few tries, but eventually we got the results he wanted. Also, is this something the school encourages or did he pick it up from some other kid? (I am always amazed/disgusted by what our kids learn on the school bus...)
