What do you think? We haven't told anyone. Can you think of any awful nicknames or ways to make fun of it? (I'm purposely spelling Markus with a K, to honor a family member.) What does it make you think of?
Wow? When I read the title, I thought you were either joking, or going to tell us you met someone with that name today and felt bad for them. I think my mom would laugh in my face if I told her that was going to be our child?s name.

Sadly, I think there are certain names that are going to sound "off" to American ears even if they are very common elsewhere. Are you or anyone in your family recent immigrants of German or Scandanavian heritage? For instance, I know someone who named her baby Zoltan, which is very unusual here, but her husband is Hungarian. I think in that case, you can get away with more unusual names.
I would love to give my baby a name celebrating my own cultural heritage, but between my genetic-freak whitebread looks and my husband's deceptively WASPy surname, I think we would sound more pretentious than anything else. No Zoltan for us. ;-)
While it's not my style- I like it! As per nicknames- kids will come up with nasty nicknames for any name- and I don't think this one lends itself too obviously to any specific one. My name is Tess- in grade school the boys joked around saying my middle name was Tickle... haha yeah. My mom never knew until recently lol.
I don't think Axel is too trendy- Axel Rose is the main association, and he has been around too long for it to be 'trendy.' It's definitely a name most people wouldn't choose, but I don't see that as a problem. I like it- it's got style!
I know I am late on this one, but I just wanted to say I live in a very Scandinavian dominated region and this is a pretty common name here. I think most spell it Aksel though. It's not something I would use, but it's not horrible either.
Re: Baby Boy: Axel Markus
It's nms at all. I can think of lots of different ways kids could make fun of that name.
It did make me think Axl Rose at first.

Not a fan. If you really love the names, why not make it Markus Axle?
Yep, me too. NMS at all.
