High-Risk Pregnancy

Need to vent-newbie (long)

Hi, I'm new to this board. I found out this past weekend that my DH and I got our BFP after 10 months of trying. Wooo Hooo! The reason I'm stressed is that I have a congenital heart defect called Tetraology of Fallot. I see a specialized cardiologist that deals with adults that have heart defects. The problem is that my cardiologist is in Seattle and I live about 1 1/2 hours south of there. She wants me to see a high-risk OB up in Seattle for my care as well but I'm beginning to figure out that may be pretty dificult. I work a 40 hour job 9-5pm so for me to take a full days work off every time I need to see my OB is just not very feasable. I understand my cardiologist needing to follow me thru my pregnancy due to my heart and they already have me scheduled for a full days workup in one month but after that they should only need to see me once a trimester. I hope I can find a high risk OB closer to home...waiting to hear from the OB in Seattle for a possible referral. Aaaarghhh!! Tongue Tied Trying very hard not to stress.....thanks for the vent!

  • I know you are very early on in your pregnancy and your work may not know you are pregnant yet but I will be honest with you - I have been honest with my workplace from day one.  They are very caring when it comes to me and making sure I am healthy and that things go well with my pregnancy.  I am now up to 3 appointments per week - 1 doctor, 2 Non-Stress Tests and they are still allowing me to work my full time 40 hour a week shift.  They let me come in an hour later for the non-stress tests and I can usually take off for my doctors appointments or come in a bit later and stay later for my appointments.

I know it is very frustrating, I was frustrated too but you should have FMLA too so keep that in mind.

I hope this helps out a bit.  Take a deep breath and know that you are not alone!  Good luck with everything.

  • I hope you find care closer to home!
  • Thanks for the encouragement. My work already knows because I'm an x-ray/CT tech so I have been sent to our sattelite office (i call it exile island) since its the safest and slowest office to reduce my radiation work exposure. Pretty much I don't receive any exposure at this office since I am never in the room during exams. I'm sure they will be accomadating since they have been thus far. Still waiting to hear from my cardiologist about a referral for closer to home.
