A few years ago I put together a website about autism and communication, as part of a class project. It's still up, and from time to time people email me about it, usually asking about some of my sources. Most of the time people are very nice and even a little grovel-y, which I'm not going to lie, is definitely nice lol.
Well one or two times, I've gotten these emails - from perfect strangers - basically demanding information from me. I just got one today that is like "I found this article: **name of site.** I need the reference. Where did it come from."
I'm just like, ok: a) It's not an article, it's a website, b) ALL of the sources are listed on the reference page, and c) this is not my job, I'm not getting paid to help you, so a "please" and "thank you" would really be appreciated! If these people ever emailed an actual professor or researcher, I guarantee they wouldn't even get a reply. Lucky for them I'm nice enough to respond, but it still ticks me off. Hmph!
Re: NBR: Is it just me, or should someone who needs my help maybe ask a little nicer?
LOL, I really wish I had done that!
Clearly they don't know the P&R rule of putting a smiley after such a request!
Give me your references.

Yes, it's ridiculous. I would never have written an email like that when I was researching my thesis. My advisor explicitly told me to lay on the compliments thick if I ever needed to write someone asking for their help. I'm glad I only get these kinds of emails every now and then - if I got it all the time I would probably have started getting pretty snarky with them by now
And taytee, yes, the smiley fixes all! Why don't people know this!?
