TTC after 35

Should I call gyno or RE?

It seems like my cycles have gotten longer lately.  In Feb, I thought I was preg but started on Day 36.  March was more like 32 or 33, but this month I'm on day 36 and still haven't started.  Unless I ovulated really late this month, there's no chance I'm preg.  Last month I went to my gyno for my annual and asked him to give me Clomid just to try, because my RE won't and wants me to do another IUI, which I can't afford right now.  I haven't seen the RE since my failed IUI last July.  So, with my cycles seeming to get longer, which doctor should I call?

Re: Should I call gyno or RE?

  •  Your cycles don't seem that 'off' or unusual (though frustrating) so it could have been just something that you had going on that month that caused it to me normal. I totally understand wanting to know why this going on though.

Trying clomid couldn't hurt but my RE told me and I've read that clomid isn't always effective for women our age (though plenty of women our age have been successful on it).

Is there a reason why your Re will only do IUI?  I did gonal-F (which is similar to follitism) and ovidrel trigger w/TI.  The cost for the injections were $1100.  Is that a more reasonable cost than all the injections w/IUI? Could you see if your RE will let you try that?

As far as who go to for your longer cycles, I think either your RE or OB could help with that.

  • I was told Clomid doesn't work for most women over 35 after being on it for two years. My ob/gyn just put me on it way ahead of when we were trying. I moved and got a new Dr who also tried a higher dose. Once I went to the fertility specialist we did a trial and saw that it really wasn't making a big difference. The injections made a huge difference for me. I would go back to your RE. See what the other options are.  I see someone in New Orleans who is really good if you want to try someone else.

  • Hi!  I am sure you just have long cycles.  I have long cycles too.  From what I have read on the TTGP board (a few women have been on IF treatment including Clomid) it is not a medicine that you just "try."  Its very serious medicine with very serious side affects both short and long term.  I guess they limit how much you can take lifetime because it can cause cancer.  You may know all of this since you are obviously seeing an RE so sorry if I am preaching to the choir.  Have you gone off of BCP recently (within last 6 months)?  That could be the reason your cycles seem longer.  Good luck!
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...
