NER: failure x2

i'm home on my couch instead of sitting in my OB's office right now, because the sugar drink made me all sorts of sick. :(

thanks for all the well wishes. my nurse is supposed to call me and let me know what she wants me to do - either i have to make another attempt at the 3 hour or there is some other test they can do.

    I can't remember, is this the 1 hr or 3 hr you were doing?

    for the 1 hr, my midwife has us drink 8 oz of Welch's purple 100% grape juice instead of the fake sucrose stuff. It has a certain # of sugars, and they just have you measure it out and drink at a specific time before your test.

    I hope you feel better and they figure something else out for you.

    it was the three hour. i failed the one hour on monday. :(

    it was that fake sugar drink and i even commented about how it was super, super sweet. she told me it had twice the sugar in it. 

    i like your midwife's idea. i wish i could convince my lab to do that.

    I was tested at 4 mo because 1) i'm overweight (though not by too much), and 2) because I have a family history of obesity induced diabetes. I passed 2 one hour tests but still had to get the 3 hour test because I had sugar in my urine one day.

    The 3 hour test was SO BAD that I almost had to stop & go home. I had to lie down on my side the entire time after the first blood pull. If you have to attempt the 3 hour again, see if they will let you lie down. It helped tremendously.

    the sugar bomb made me sick too. but I couldn't go home (i thought I might pass out on the street) so I stuck it out at the dr's office and failed hour 1. but actually walking around outside made me feel much better... the fresh  air made me feel not so sick and i guess walking burned off the sugar. so i passed hour 2 and 3 with walks in between.

    thanks for the advice. i'm hoping they won't want to attempt this again.
