DS came home from daycare today with a 102.4 fever, kind of run down but otherwise fine (no coughing, runny nose or anything). DCP just noticed him being warm a few minutes before DH picked him up, so it was later in the day.
I called the pedi, and she said to go ahead and give him motrin, and the things to watch for are not necessarily the high fever, but the fever not going down on the medicine. He was tired earlier than normal so we did bedtime a little early.
I didn't think to ask the pedi... do I wake him to check his temp overnight, or do I just let him sleep?
Re: Fever... do I wake him overnight for tylenol/motrin?
When DD had RSV at just under 6 mo., she had a raging fever (often over 103). We had to wake her to nebulize her, and we also dosed her with tylenol at that time.
If I were in your situation, I'd check on him and feel his forehead. If he's fussy or awake, I'd check then too - and take his temp if he felt warm and was already waking.
But I wouldn't flat out wake him from a deep sleep to check his temp.
DH just checked and thought he still felt warm... didn't wake him up yet. Am I wrong in thinking that he would wake himself up if he was uncomfortable and I could get him motrin then? I almost am thinking the sleep is probably better for him to get over whatever he has?
Thanks, ladies. Just went in to check on him again and he was stirring so I went ahead and gave him another dose, some cuddles, and a cool bottle (he didn't even get close to finishing his nighttime bottle before he fell asleep earlier). Hopefully he gets better soon.
