Maybe I'm just overthinking this, but what's the rule of thumb for hardware finishes? Do they all match throughout the house? We've been replacing our door knobs with oil rubbed bronze finished knobs, but we have nickel finished bath faucets/vanity pulls. I'd also like to do stainless appliances and nickel pulls in our kitchen. Won't that look funny to mix the two finishes? Help!
Re: s/o Decorating Question: Hardware Finishes
All Dressed Up
our house is brand new - and we have a few finishes. For bathroom faucets - it's all polished chrome w/ nickel finish lights.
for our other living spaces we have the bronze finish.
our cabinet hardware is a decorative pewter
and all of our door knobs are nickel - I don't think there is anything wrong w/ it - as long as it's not POLISHED BRASS
Oh I'm drooling over here...oil-rubbed bronze is such a high-end look. My mom and dad did throughout their whole house (they basically gutted their old house & redid everything). And ORB is actually a much more neutral finish than say something like brass.
IMO, I think it'd be fine with different door knobs BUT it might look odd to have your bath faucet in oil-rubbed bronze and then have your BA cabinet knobs and towel racks in the nickel. I don't think that's what you have though... Also, nickel and stainless steel go really well together- your kitchen is going to look sharp!

I don't think door knobs have to match other finishes.
In our kitchen and bathrooms we've got stainless steel faucets, knobs, towel racks, etc. But, the doorknobs we've got through the whole house are polished brass. It doesn't bother me.
