How long does it take power pumping to boost your supply? I'm panicing a little because I just found out I'm going to have to travel to the east coast (currently live in San Diego) for work for 7 days (2 days travel, plus 5 days work). My DD will be 6 months old and is currently eating ~28-30 oz a day and my freezer stash is only ~ 200oz (maybe more I need to check tonight). So if I'm gone for 7 days, my stash will be wiped out and might not last. AND my supply has been down for the last week or so due to a cold and my approaching AF (I think). So I'm looking for ways to boost my supply back up and increase my freezer stash and I'm wondering if power pumping is the way to do this...I'm drinking water like it's going out of style (~120oz/day) and will start with my Mama's Milk tea again. I really really really want to make it to 1 year, but I'm terrified that this travel may seriously hurt that. I still have more travel to do this summer, but that's only 1-2 days at a time, but still, if the stash is wiped out.... Help?!?!?!
Re: Power Pumping and Supply?
I have EP since LO was 2 weeks old and am still going strong. There are times when I have supplemented with a formula (when traveling or days when I didn't pump a lot or produce enough milk) and he wasn't even phased by it. Ever thought of supplementing a little so you don't deplete your supply?
As far as power pumping, whenever I feel that I am not producing as much as I would like I just pump more often, every 2-3 hours. It is a pain but it always helps to up my supply.
Sounds like you are already back to a regular work schedule. I would just stick to the regular schedule with pumping and up the number of times you pump at night while you are away. I understand your fear of drying up, and yes, 7 days is a long time to be without LO there to nurse, but coming from someone who has exclusively pumped for almost 5 months and still has a great supply, you should be fine when you get back.
I didn't even think about that! I would check with the airline and see if there are any exceptions. I would think that they would let you bring it back but who knows!
