Pregnancy Gingivitis

Does anyone else have pregnancy gingivitis?  I normally have really healthy gums and teeth.  However, I have developed pregnancy gingivitis in one spot only and it is between my big front left tooth and the tooth next to it.  At first I could handle the bleeding but now it's so swollen I feel it on my upper lip when I talk or smile and my bottom teeth touch the gums when I close my mouth because it's so swollen on the inside of my mouth. I've been brushing, flossing, using mouth wash, even rinsing with peroxide a few times and it won't even lessen the symptom.  I put a call into my dentist office but have not heard back from them yet.  Does anyone have any good home remedies on how to lessen the bleeding and swollen gums?  I know it won't go away completely but I want to at least try to manage it so it doesn't look so disgusting?  TIA!

To make it go away, the tooth needs to be cleaned UNDER the gums... which you can't really do at home unfortunately. I was told I have this, and it took a pretty thorough cleaning and about a week of careful brushing for the inflammation to go away.

  • I have pregnancy gingivitis and also 2 "pregnancy tumors," - sounds way worse than it is, it's just swollen gums. So that may be what you have going on. My dentist told me there was nothing I could do about them but give birth, but after my cleaning, they went down a LOT.
  • Yes, get a cleaning at the dentist.  Mine went away for a while after that, but flared back up.  My next dentist appt is for 3 weeks after LO will get here, so I hope to get rid of it for good at that point.

In the meantime, just make sure to floss, brush, and rinse AT LEAST twice a day.

  • mine is not as bad as yours but just FYI - I had with DD and this baby and if you are breastfeeding it can stick around a while too because of the hormones.
