Babies: 0 - 3 Months

For those of you who have had a D & C...

I had a postpartum hemorrhage 3 weeks after the birth of my little girl (a very scary experience), and as a result I had to have a D & C to remove the piece of placenta that was left inside my uterus.  It has been 6 days since I had the D & C and I am still bleeding (it is not heavy, but it is also not getting any lighter) and it is still bright red.  So my questions for those of you who have had a D & C are: how long did you bleed for? How long was it bright red for?  I have a follow-up appointment on Monday, but am worried that the same thing will happen again.

Re: For those of you who have had a D & C...

  • I can't remember for sure, it has been a year now (D&C due to no fetal pole at 9 weeks so it was a pretty traumatic time, not sure if I remember it all correctly...) but that definitely doesn't sound right to me either.  I would probably call just to check

    Good Luck : )

  • I also had a D&C to remove remaining placenta.  But my procedure was after my 6-week check-up.  After the procedure, I had bleeding (more like spotting) for about 12 more days.  It wasn't a lot, but on the 6th day after the procedure, the bleeding really picked up again.  This scared me since I thought it should be going away.  But I just took it very easy for about 6-7 days, and that seemed to help.  The color was bright red for most of the time, then turned brown/orange, then yellow.  It felt like it would never go away.  GL.

  • Sadly I have had two.  For both I had bright red bleeding for about a week, and then spotting for another 2.

I'm sorry you had to go through that.

  • It's been 3 yrs since mine but I'm pretty sure I bled for 2 weeks. I don't remember if it was bright red though.

I bled for about a month after my D&C. I had an ultrasound for retained tissue and nothing was found. Most of the time the bleeding stops after a week or two, I was just "lucky".

I hope yours stops soon. I know how horrible it is.
