Mrs.Manners, my husband says the same thing all the time! I just think the man with the yellow hat is stupid. That little monkey needs a crate, padded room, something. "Be a good little monkey" just isn't getting it done. (I also watch way too much George.)
The country house is where he grew up as a child, before he became a paleontologist and moved to the city to work at the museum. I guess his parents either died or retired and moved to Florida, because they're not in any of the episodes!
ETA: I have spent many an hour watching/wondering the same thing.
And, I don't think he's boinking the scientist chick. I think she plays for the other team
Well...in one episode he did write a book which sold really well after George painted a billboard for it. Maybe he is living off the royalties?
But I have to agree that I always wonder what he does for work. Like in the camping episode...why is he too busy to take George camping again? What is he doing?

Haha! And I absolutely CRACK up at the scenes where they have people smoking cigarettes and pipes (like in the one where they visit the zoo). They are quite dated, but DS loves the stories and doesn't have notice the things I do.
I haven't read Curious George since I was a kid, so I'm definitely going to check it out at the library today and come back with a plausible story about his riches!
