Okay laides, I need help from the experts. I keep losing weight, and I'm scared I'm not providing the babies the sufficent nutrients they need!
Nothing I ate yesterday stayed down. EVERYTHING CAME RIGHT BACK UP! So far, I gagged a few times today, but the cereal is still in.
I told DH last night that I wanted to ask for some nausea meds from the doctor, and he kept saying that women everywhere survived m/s w/out taking meds. I know he is right, but at the same time, I'm going to end up dyhydrated! Water makes me gag (cold, small sips, straw, no straw). All I drink is Canada Dry or Sprite.
And as of today, I have lost 8 lbs! And people are noticing the weight loss. I know it is common / normal, but I don't like it. I'm scared.
I think Victoria mentioned that she had those sea sickness bands... I'm assuming those helped and are safe? Anything else? I asked my RE about the nausea meds (forgot name) and she didn't want to give it to me b/c they make you drowsy... true?
Re: Safe meds for m/s during pg
My doc said not to worry if I didn't gain weight during first tri due to m/s. He's really into holistic medicine so he recommended peppermint, lemons, pretzels, ginger ale, or anything with some ginger, the seasickness bracelets (not sure what they're called), etc. He said to try to find something that you can keep down even if it's something like potato chips. Try to eat while during the time of day that you feel best.
As for meds, I don't have any recs. But, I hope you feel better soon! Don't worry, this will pass and you'll get your appetite back.

Oh sweetie, I know your scared but this is a great thing. (being sick means wonderfully healthy babies)- I know not what you want to hear.
With my daughter I was horribly sick (well with my son too but my daughter was far worse). I couldn't keep ANYTHING down. If sprite works, drink it. I NEVER drank water until I think like month 6 or 7 with her. I tried ginger candies, sea bands, lemonade, lolipops, crackers, etc... NOTHING worked. I begged for drugs and they gave it to me- zofran-- and IT DIDnt work either.
For me it never went away but it got better around month 6. I was able to keep food down, and only randomly throw up (whenever she felt like she didn't like something at that moment).
And I still gained 75 lbs..
Hang in there and your body will keep those babies protected.
Oh, I'm sorry you're feeling so awful. I'd definitely talk to your doctor, but in the meantime, remember that the babies will absolutely get everything they need from you. Your health might suffer, but the babies will get proper nutrition.
Have you tried preggie pops? Popsicles worked for me at times, too.
Zofran was my G-dsent! I lost 29lbs in my first trimester. I had the same concerns as you, as just about nothing stayed down. The only thing I could eat was Jamba Juice and cinnamon raisin toast. I spoke with my dr and he said that the babies will not suffer, only I will. That made me feel much better, as he kept growing and I wasn't. All in all, by the end of my pregnancy, I had not really gained much weight, but to be honest, I needed to lose weight before I went in. I also drank quite a bit of the vitamin water, only the lemonade and fruitpunch ones did not make me sick. I also ate a lot of tic-tacs.
Your babies are totally protected, the way your body is built, you will suffer not them. Zofran really worked for me, and I know many who it has worked for as well. But like pp, it does not work for everyone.

Your body will continue to provide nutrients to the babies so don't worry about that. Hope you feel better soon!
Did the Zofran make you drowsy during the day? How often did you take it? Is it only when you feel sick, or every AM?
thanks.

Awww, that sucks. I had horrible m/s with DD, I lost 20lbs the first trimester. I didn't gain a lb until 3rd tri! (which is great for PP weight loss!). I was told not to worry...the baby only needs 300 calories per day. I was also told to take vit B or Zofran. The sea sickness bands did nothing for me. Feel better! I hope i don't get it with this baby!

I'm sorry you've been feeling to sick. I don't have much advice yet but the other girls gave great suggestions.
Since I'm new here I just wanted to say big congrats on your twins!!!
I used Zofran, it was wonderful
I took it once a day if I felt bad and never felt dizzy.
So, my goal is to intake a minimum of 600 calories?! Yesterday, I def didn't meet that. Hopefully it gets better, slowly. I'm going to try the Seabands first, and take it from there. Oh, and gotta find the ginger pills.
THANKS to everyone for their recs.

I'm 20 weeks today and my m/s is still lingering. It is gradually getting better though. In the beginning nothing helped. I tried everything except prescriptions (my doctor didn't want to give them to me since I was still keeping hydrated). I started eating less often (instead of the small frequent meals suggested) and just throwing up a couple of hours after eating. Luckily I was able to keep down what I ate and just threw up some weird foamy stuff. I know TMI but it helped me!
They say that m/s is caused by an abundance of hormones, which means it's a very healthy pregnancy. But I know that knowing that doesn't help when you're nauseous and exhausted! Hope you feel better soon!
It is reassuring that everything is probably functioning great inside, and babies are growing. I just feel like complete crap, especially at night! I get home and just want to lay down. And when I do get up, I get somewhat light-headed and get sick again! I feel bad for Dh b/c he's basically alone all the time b/c I'm in bed, napping or sleeping for the night already. He understands, and hates to see me sick, but I just feel useless!

Jackie, don't worry about DH, he will be fine... You know I was 16 weeks and on a cruise (felt like complete dirt) we were in St. Lucia on a bus traveling to some falls.. They had to stop the bus because I was sooo sick and I had already filled up the only bag they had.. I got off on this tiny edge of a cliff and was miserable, while everyone waited for me to get back on (talk about embarrassing).. I just wanted to go home and DH was just wanting to have fun.. The lovely lady st. lucian lady handed me a ginger mint..
She knew even though I wasnt showing yet.
Don't know why I felt the need to share this, but either way you got 2 lovely babies growing in there.. Just do what you can to survive it and everyone will understand..
Liz, thanks so much!
Yesterday Dh suggested we go to Sears to buy a vaccuum (something I was suppose to do over the weekend but wasn't feeling well). I just looked at him and said "are you kidding? don't you see that I'm feeling horribly?! Seriously, you want me to go buy a vaccuum and all I want to do is lay down in bed?!" I'm surprised no f-bomb flew out of my mouth, but I controlled myself. LOL

They don't get it. Even if they try and want to be sensitive they don't get it. I really thought that DH would understand more the second time around, but he didn't. A few times he would come home and the kitchen would be a mess and the laundry hadn't been done in a week and he would complain and get on my case - I wanted to tell him where to go. I barely had enough energy to take care of Alexis, much less get anything else accomplished!!
You have 2 in there so twice the hormones, I'm sure you're feel extremely tired and sick. Do what you can and don't feel bad about anything you can't or don't want to do.
8lbs is alot to lose so early on in the pregnancy. you need to talk to your OB right away.
I was like that with all my pregnancies. It is horrible!!
I don't do medicine. We use only natural stuff. NO antibiotics, no tylenol, no motrin, no vaccines BUT Zofran was a must during pregnancy.
Phenergen is also commonly prescribed but makes you drowsy.
MY OB also suggests UNISOM which is an over the counter sleeping aid. It is safe in the first trimester but obviously makes you tired.
Being drowsy was not an option for me with the two boys so I was presribed Zorfran. I've got a bunch left I can send you if your OB doesn't -lol
don't worry about losing weight during the 1st tri... trust me, you will gain it all at some point
have you tried the snacking on saltines and ginger ale the seconde you wake up? I kept a pack of crackers on my nightstand and nibbled on them before I even got out of bed, that seemed to work.
I also ate the preggie pop drops like nobody's business lol
As for meds, there are al ot of girls who had to take meds for their m/s (i have a friend who was hospitalized for severe hyperemesis) and the meds are safe... just beware of the side effects! I had to take reglan and I had the worst side effect with it. One of the major side effects is severe panic attacks (that make you want to literally rip your skin off. i felt like tearing at my skin. it was terrible) so make sure that if you do have any sort of anxiety/panic attacks in your history, that you tell your dr before they prescribe them to you!
Have you tried carbonated water? It's just like drinking regular water, just carbonated. they also have some naturally flavored. that may work as well!!
300 calories in addition to normal caloric intake (so if you are eating 1500 a day, it's 1800... or, in your case, 2100)
Oh yeah, I have already a few bags in the car JIC. Luckily I haven't had to use them, but yesterday I didn't think I would make it home w/out them.
I just called RE to ask for the Zorfran... and worst case I'll ask OB. Thanks!

I took it as needed, and it made me a completely different person. I took it at work, and at night to sleep (if needed).
