Babies on the Brain

My Birth Story (PsIP)

Sorry for the delay, but here it is.

ETA: Sorry for any grammatical errors. And I had a really hard time remembering exact times... Those 19hrs are a blur to me.

We went into the hospital Thursday night (April 8th) at 8pm.  When we got to our room, I was checked for any progress.. still 1cm and 50% effaced. At around 10pm the nurse and resident Dr. came in to insert the foley bulb and the cervadil.  Inserting the bulb was one of the worst pains i've ever experienced! This Dr wasn't the most gentle person... you'd figure being female she'd take it easy!

I contracted all night long but they were tolerable and I slept right through them. At 5am the Dr came in to check me out, I was 4cm dilated and 70% effaced. At 6am they moved me over to L&D. Shortly after, the Dr broke my water. I had a TON of water. It got all over her arm (HA!) and pretty much all over the place. My contractions started getting stronger pretty quickly after that. Luckily I got my epi at 6:30am, so it wasn't that long of a wait.  Unfortunately I had a reaction to the epidural. My pressure dropped to 84/40 (if i remember correctly), I got really dizzy and had insane ringing in my ears. This happened twice. They eventually gave me meds to up my bp.

The epidural worked pretty well for the majority of the morning. I was progressing slowly but surely. At around 1pm I started feeling my contractions... this went on for the remainder of the laboring process. They gave me more juice, twice directly into the epi catheter...didn't help.

At 3pm I was 8cm dilated and he was at +2 station. At 4pm I was 9.5cm dilated but not completely effaced AND he hadn't dropped much more. My OB had said that if he hadn't dropped more by 5pm that we were going to do a c-sec.

5pm rolled around and we were getting ready for that c-section.

At 5:45pm on April 9th Lucas Anthony was born. It was such an over whelming feeling that it didn't even feel real.  We are so in love with him and so much more in love with each other. Big Smile
