TTC After a Loss

XP from TTGP.. need opinions, advice, please

Just came back from Drs. Here is the scenario. I have one fibroid INSIDE my uterus. It is what likely caused my last m/c. In the walls of my uterus are 7 various sized fibroids. She says I can remove the one fibroid inside my ute laproscopically, then try to get pregnant. The remaining fibroids may or may not cause a problem with another pregnancy. OR I can have major surgery to remove the other fibroids that are embedded deep within the walls of my uterus. This of course is extensive and leaves the possibility of scar tissue that can also cause another m/c. Those are my options. My eyes are burning from crying so much.Do I just remove the one and risk having yet another m/c. Do I remove them all and still have that risk, or do I just give up my dream to have my husband's baby. Should I just be grateful that I have 2 wonderful daughters and stop being selfish? Please, guys, give me your opinions..I am so torn..and my heart is heavy..

  • Hi, Chuley - I remember you from TTGP and I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.  Now prepare, this is going to be long.

I have now had 3 m/c's and the only thing they can really find wrong with me is that I have one tiny fibroid that is likely blocking my right tube.  We discussed removing this, but they said that there was a risk of losing my tube, that the scar tissue would potentially be just as problematic, and that I wouldn't be trying again for at least 6 months.  I decided to leave it.

I assume that the one they're talking about removing is submucosal (meaning it sticks into the uterine cavity).  If that's the case, and the others are all within or outside the walls of the uterus, then from what I've read, they are likely to be less problematic.  Lots of women conceive and go full term with fibroids.  The problem with removing as many as you have is that they might have to do a hysterectomy once they get in there and then, well, you're screwed.

If I were you, I'd get at least two opinions on what to do.  Based only on what you're telling us, I think I'd opt for removing the one known problematic fibroid and leaving the rest.  There will always be a decent chance that you will m/c again, but to me, that's better than potentially further reducing (or even obliterating) your fertility.

  • Did your dr. discuss embolization as an option rather than surgery?  I don't know much about it other than it's less invasive.  But whether you can do it depends on the type, size and location of the fibroids.

  • Thank you ladies.. that is exactly what I am afraid of also.. losing my uterus entirely..  I am thinking that I am gonna go with removing the one fibroid.. I have heard of embolization, but they do not know if its helpful or not if pregnancy is desired.. thanks again.
  • I am so sorry you have to make a decision like this and to be honest I have absolutely no experience with fibroids and their removal, but my gut instinct leans towards remove the one laproscopically and ttc again.

I think take the path of least resistance, if there is a chance that you could poss m/c again even if you had the major surgery, why not start with the less invasive of the two options (and the less expensive.)  Especially if you don't HAVE to have the latter of two fibroids removed (regarding your health and prognosis)

You and DH deserve to have a baby of your own, at least you know you can get pg and you can carry to term, did you have your fibroids with your other pg?

Yes, I remember when I had my first daughter they told me I had A fibroid..but i remember them telling me later on in an ultrasound that it had shrunk.. i had no issues or problems with either pregnancy..the more I think about it, the more I think I am gonna go for the laproscopic surgery... thanks again.

I agree with this. A very difficult decision to make. Do not feel selfish! You sound like you are a great mom already, another child would be blessed to have you! Best of luck.
