Yesterday I suggested to one of the techs about running the java update on my computer so that it would be patched.
I was told, "You can't do that! Life on earth would cease to exist and we'd turn into a fiery ball of death!" Or, y'know, something similar to that.
I was just given detailed instructions on how to run the same patch that I was going to run yesterday. oy.

It is NOT the same patch. It came from the Tech Gawds On High, making it infinitely superior to your puny patch that would have ended the world.
On the upside, I'm so happy you have internet at work again!

Pro tip:
While you're at it, check your Add/Remove programs listing for older versions of Java and uninstall all but the newest - the redundancy can cause apps to not run properly.
