Re: CPW: Drugs during labor...

  • I am going in open minded!

I have no idea what it's going to feel like...  I'd like to go au natural... but i don't want to declare that yet...

I am going to just go in & see what I can handle...

I didn't get novicane today when I had a filling....  is that an indicator??

  • I am actually the same way L2...  My first delivery was natural, no drugs, second time I got an epi and it was a horrible experience (they hit the nerve in my leg and it felt like someone was jack hammering my knee)...  I guess it depends on how long my labor goes and how bad it is this time whether or not I get drugs.  Im a pretty tough old broad..  Wink

  • Drugs aren't an option where I'm set to deliver.  I'd have to be transferred to the L&D wing to have that option.

  • I'll take any and all drugs that they offer :-)
  • I'm going in with just the IV meds that take the edge off since they worked for me with DD.  However if I have to get induced at any point like when they speed up my labor with my angel son I probably will cave and get an epidural.  I'm not a pain person so the less the better Big Smile

  • I chose other.  It just really depends.  I delivered a 7lbd9oz girl with drugs and had a HORRID tear.  I delivered a 10lb boy with drugs and was in AWESOME shape afterward.

So I'll play it by ear and see how it's going.  .  .  doing my best to go drug-free, I think, but if it gets to be too much, I'll ask for something.  I'll probably avoid the epi, because with my scoliosis, anesthesiologists have a 50% hit rate (note: it was not my intention to deliver said 10lb boy without drugs.  It was the anesthesiologist's missing that did it).

  • I'm all for drugs. That said, I was already 7cm by the time I got checked into the hospital with DS (only 1 hour after the contractions started), so I have been told I need to get there quickly this time because I could go even faster. If that ends up being the case, I understand there might not be time for my beloved epi.

This.  I had the epi with DD, and awful back labour that I still felt.  I'm thinking if this baby is also 9lbs I'll prolly opt for the drugs.  I'm actually more afraid of the pain of them messing around and stitching me up afterwards with out drugs.  I remember the delivering the placenta was awful, freaking doc had her hand up in there and another one pressing on my belly and it HURT and was so annoying b/c I just wanted them to leave me alone and give me my baby already!

  • My plan is to go natuarl and do the very best that I can. I may consider taking some sort of pain reliever if there is no way I can bear the pain. I don't want the epi.
