Closet question

How long did you wait to purge your closet?  I think my old clothes are mocking me.  I'm seriously ready to box up half of it and at minimum hide it all.

Re: Closet question

  • I'd give it until at least 6 months postpartum.  I didn't lose all of my weight until I stopped breastfeeding and I would have gotten rid of a lot of nice things if I had dumped them at 6 weeks or 6 months postpartum.

  • When I went into maternity clothes I boxed up my regular clothes (sorting them into "should fit again" and "yeah right, i'm delusional") and put them away.  I've gotten out the "should fits" but the "delusional" boxes are still under my bed.  I'm not sure when I'll get rid of them, probably no time soon since they aren't in the way or anything.

  • On the advice of a friend, I hung/stored everything I didn't fit into anymore but wanted to keep (at the time) in a completely separate closet so that I wouldn't see them and get depressed.  I gave myself PLENTY of time to lose the weight (and haven't, go figure), and about three or so months ago, I finally just decided to give away some stuff and try to sell/consign the nice stuff (like my suits).  Out of the stuff that I hung up in that closet, I think I only ended up keeping a few pieces.  Those are now stored in that same closet in a soft under bed box.  These are realistically pieces that I could get into (not like a size 0/2 or anything, which is what most of the stuff I had hung up was...yeesh).  I know I'll never be a 0 again (sob), so I just got rid of it to avoid being depressed.

I would give yourself six months.  If by then you're not back into those clothes, just pass them on and then you can go shopping when you DO lose the weight.  Yay!

  • I give it a year (after birth).  I was so frustrated in the beginning, and *knew* i would never fit into xyz again, and gave it away.  Now, I have lost the pg weight plus some, so I have nothing to wear!  I would definitly box it over giving it away, then after a year, pitch them.
  • If you had a c/s, it takes at least 6mo for all the swelling to go away. If not longer. Maybe it's not exactly swelling, but my c/s made me funny shaped for a long long time in a way that a vaginal birth did not. My shape never went back 100% to what it was, but it eventually got less odd.

And I'm about 2.5 sizes smaller than I was before I got pg the first time, a size smaller than before I got pg the 2nd time, so hang on to anything you love or that is classic because you never know. I'd give it a year. Just hide it for now.
