A question for the Huntsville girls...

What is downtown Huntsville like? Would you live in downtown Huntsville?

The reason I'm asking is because my sister and BIL have been looking for a rental house in Huntsville. They are relocating from Atlantic Beach, Florida. They said they had a really hard time finding what they were looking for, but found a 3-bedroom house near a historic district in downtown huntsville for $1,000 a month. They were excited because the one they almost got was $1,600 a month.

Does that seem ok as far as rental prices?

I know my BIL's taste... they won't live somewhere that isn't super nice (ie, they want granite countertops, stainless steel appliances... and in a historic district. Picky... but eh, what can you do?)

Re: A question for the Huntsville girls...

  • Downtown Huntsville is pretty baren. I'd look in the hospital district or five points area. I think $1000 sounds too good to be true for that area. There is a small pocket areas of nice homes but they are expensive. And then there are some "really" crappy areas. One of the few apartment projects is downtown. And it's close to some sketch areas.

  • I agree with Sarah...that does sound a bit too good to be true.  I also would  suggest Five Points or the hospital district.  But it is pricey, but if they want those amenities (especially in a historic district) then they are going to have to pay the price.
  • Do you know the name of the street?  In that area, you can have a really nice well maintained street next to a really crappy run-down street.  The historical district is really nice, but very pricy!

Ditto this.  In my opinion, the projects aren't close enough to the historic district to worry me.

  • Ya'll do know they moved everyone out of those projects and  they are tearing them down.

  • I asked my sister. Apparently the house is in the five points district. So that is an ok area?

  • I agree with the PP's - Five Points isn't bad, but I have a few friends that live down there and typically you have either a really nice house or project looking homes. Very hit and miss - downtown hsv is desperately trying to get a makeover and those take time - in this case lots of time.
