Help with Car Sickness

DS has been getting sick in the car (throwing up).

 

Not for long vacation trips, would I would understand. But even for short, city drives. I?ve noticed he?s thrown up when we do too many turns. Sometimes on a freeway which are pretty straight.


It?s not that he just ate either. Sometimes it?s been 2 hours since he had milk and he?d still throw up.

 

This just happening the last few months. His gag reflex has always been weak and he?s prone to throw ups but the car sickness thing is pretty new.

 

Anyone experience this with DC?

 

Any suggestions????

    Is he still rear facing? we had to abandon extended rear facing at 18 months due to carsickness.

    My DS also has a pretty sensitive gag reflex and he can get "urpy" in the car.  Here are some things I've found that help:

    --look out the car window toward things in the distance (ditto the pp about rear facing maybe being a problem at this age)

    --fresh air helps

    --distraction and talking to Mommy helps

    High School English teacher and mom of 2 kids:

    DD, born 9/06/00 -- 12th grade
    DS, born 8/25/04 -- 7th grade

    My neice had this problem - to the point my sister gave her a big bowl that everyone called "the puke bowl".  The thing that mad it stop for her was a DVD player and movies to watch whenever the car is moving.  It's the only thing that keeps her from puking at this point (she's 4 1/2).

    Is he in the middle or a side seat? I actually get sick if I sit in the back and don't sit in the middle seat. I think being able to look straight ahead helps me.
