3rd Trimester

What the he// was the courier thinking!?!

About a week and 1/2 ago, I ordered a dresser for our LO's room. I got a tracking number and was tracking the package as it got closer and closer.

Yesterday morning when I checked, it said that it had arrived in my town and was out for delivery. I was at work, and figured when I got home from work there would be a notice on my door saying, oh we missed you, come to our location and pick up your package (as is the standard practice around here if you're not home when they try to deliver a package).

So yesterday after work, I turn the corner onto my street, and what do I see? A huge cardboard box containing my baby's dresser standing on my FRONT door step. Clearly visible from the street. In a box marked clearly with the baby furniture company name, with a picture of the dresser, and obviously the name/brand of the dresser. Oh, and did I mention it was raining?

I was none too pleased that a piece of furniture worth hundreds of dollars was left on my front door step in the rain. My DH and I had a doctor's appt last night and didn't open the box yet. We're waiting until the cardboard is dry tonight to open it. Let me know tell you, there will be he// to pay if that dresser is warped from water damage.

The courier has received an email of complaint from me so far. I told them I would be contacting them further if there's any damage.

But can you freaking believe that!? What kind of an idiot courier driver does that?

  • It's not his/her fault. If the shipper didn't require it to be signed for they did their job properly.

This. When my sister was my MOH, the mailman left her dress in the unlocked mailroom of her building. I ended up having to buy her a new dress.

  • PP is right, they did what their orders were. Similar to your story though, my mom ordered our stroller and carseat for us and thought it was coming to her house. They came to ours and luckily our neighbors were nice enough to put them on our back deck for us.

I went to the courier office on my lunch hour and asked what their standard practice was for delivering a package when no one is home. She said they try 3 times and then give notice that they'll hold it at the office for 5 days.

I've had other, smaller, less expensive, packages to be delivered and there's always been a notice on my door saying come pick it up.

  • I once came home to find my $2,000 imac on my porch. That thing was supposed to be signed for. Apple always requires it. I had to go pick up my ipod from the UPS place, but they had no problem leaving my computer on the porch. I was PISSED, but I didn't raise a lot of hell since it was fine and not stolen.

This.  We get packages almost weekly and they are always left on our porch.

  • It is up to the sender to specify what the courier should. Most of them say to leave it at the door because it is more expensive for them to have to have to package signed for. The courier did his job.

Perhaps he may have, but when I talked to them in the office, they said they try 3 times, and then hold it at the office for 5 days. So I guess I'm not really sure who to be mad at, but I was upset about it.

  • i know with ups, everytime something comes to my door somethings require a signature and somethings dont, i didnt have to sign or our stroller, bassinet or diaper bag. unless the sender states it needs to be signed for. also the courier uses their decression (sp) as to when and if things are left at the door.
  • FedEx delivered our furniture in the pouring rain too. I knew they would leave it though, because it wasn't something that would be signed for. A couple of the boxes were soaked! Thankfully my dad doesn't live far from us and has a spare key, so he went over and brought it all inside for me. It was going to be another hour+ before I could get home in traffic and dh had grad school that night, so I couldn't have brought it in by myself anyway (4 or 5 boxes weighing 60-80lbs each). I went ahead and unpacked the wet boxes immediately and laid the pieces out until dh could assemble it all. Everything was fine.

  • Whatever you do, DON'T wait for the boxes to dry before opening. This will keep the moisture in, causing mold and damage to further had you opened it first thing and allowed the furniture to dry immediately.
