Sleeping on side at night?

DS has started to sleep on his side at night for the last two nights. Anyone else's baby sleep on their side? He seems to sleep better this way...

  • Yep! Mine started this about a month ago and he sleeps a lot better that way.

  • Watch out!  A few days after Max started sleeping on his side he started fully rolling onto his tummy!  That paired with a growth spurt meant no sleep for us!  He's used to it now and is back to STTN but it wasn't fun at the beginning...but they are so cute sleeping on their sides!

Same here....I thought it was awesome but now he is rolling all the way over to his tummy and is now up 3 times a night.  Not fun!!

When Max rolled on his tummy at night did you place him back on his side/back or let him be?

The first night we were freaked out and rolled him onto his back once he was deep in sleep.  The second night we just turned his head so it wasn't completely face down in the mattress.  By the third night I was so tired and sick of stressing that we just let him be.  We talked to our Pediatrician who told us to put him down on his back but leave him if he rolls over.  Apparently if they have the ability to roll they are "safe" on their tumms!

DS will fuss for about 5 minutes when we  put him to bed because he is trying to get comfortable - usually ends up on his tummy to sleep but once he finds his hand to suck on he's fine.  But now he is waking up after 5 hours and then we have to try to soothe him.  I try to put him on his back but as soon as I do that he flips back to his tummy.....it's so frustratin!!  I ended up picking him up and rocking for a few minutes but then DH had to go in and soothe him again.  Not sure what we will do tonight....so tiring!

  • Yes! Once we stopped swaddling her about a week ago, she started sleeping on her side. She looks so adorable, and she seems to be sleeping much better.

  • Yep! DS has been sleepign on his side since he was born! The NICU placed him this way and he likes it so we just kept it up...though now I go in to get him and he is on his back, crying because he doesn't like it!
