Have you used a play/sun shade tent?

I was thinking about getting one for LO since we hang out at our friend's pool a lot in the summer. But I'm not sure that he'd stay in it since he's becoming more mobile. How did it work for you and your LO? Any other tips for hanging out by the pool?

  • lots of sunscreen, a hat, and those swimsuits that are like shorts and a t-shirt that have UVA/UVB protection built into them. Target sells them. I don't think there is a way to keep a little one in one spot:)

  • Thanks. Yeah we planned to do all that stuff but I thought it might be fun for him to hang somewhere that he can kinda sit and play with his toys but with some shade. Oh well. Judging from the views and lack of responses this is a novel idea. haha.
  • I thought about buying one as well, but after looking at them, I decided for the amount of use it would get, it would make more sense to buy a big beach umbrella so everyone can enjoy the shade.  You may be at the beach more than we are, we typically go for 1 week a summer.  If we decide to join the neighborhood pool there is plenty of shade there so we would not need it for more regular use.
  • we bought one for tomas when we went to miami when he was 7 months. he wouldn't stay in it. it was actually hilarious b/c he was only then learning to army crawl. so he'd inchworm out of it and fuss at us. we'd put him back in, repeat.

i found it to be hot inside and not well ventilated, despite the claim on the package to be the best ventillated product. i think it was this one. granted, we were in Miami and it's hotter than hot there in July! i think it might have worked better if he were older. he wasn't really into toys at that age. he just wanted to be with us. after he turned 1, he was more into his stuff than his people.

  • We are at the beach alot during the summer and we often times just rent the cabanas there BUT we do have a shade tent and my girls will stay in it when they get too hot or too much sun on them. I find it useful because it also blocks the wind for them so when they are trying to eat snacks they will also sit in it.
  • Oh but for the pool I wouldn't get one, there are a lot of shady spots at the pools we got to so its not useful there for us.
