Ergo users - Infant insert or not?

I already have the Ergo from ds...loved it!  wondering if I should get the infant insert or not.....I've seen mixed reviews on it.  Seems like it might be more of a waste of money than if I just wait till baby #2 is big enough to fit in it without it.  

 If you did not use the insert, how big did baby have to be to fit in it without it?

    I have the Heart2Heart insert and I really like it. It makes the baby quite warm, though, so keep that in mind depending on your climate.

    Without the insert they need to have excellent head/neck control, I think Ergo recommends they be 4 or 5 months old.

    I use mine...  it does make baby quite warm - I usually have her in just a short sleeve onsie and diaper.

    I have been using the Ergo without the insert since we brought the baby home from the hospital.  Maybe it's because we have the sport and not regular Ergo, but his head is supported by the carrier.

    I have the heart to heart insert and we use it daily for walks.  I like it a lot and would recommend it.  but like pp said, it does get warm.

    We have the original infant insert and the heart to heart insert.  My DD hates the original insert but loves the heart to heart. 

    Your LO has to have excellent head control and be big enough for her legs to come out of the sides of the carrier at her knees in order to not use the insert.  I think the insert is well worth it!

    We have an Ergo and I can't figure out how to get LO into the Ergo using the heart to heart. He seems too big, like I'm trying to stuff a giant ham into a sock or something (he fits into the pillow thing fine, it's just a matter of getting him from there into me/Ergo).It annoys me because I don't want to wait 5 months until he can just go into the Ergo alone. Im trying it again today.

    Ok I had to update- I just tried LO in it with the insert, and huge success! The problem was that little pillow thing- I ditched that and he went right in. It's totally comfortable and I think he likes it more than the Moby...well, as of now. GL!
