Protein in Urine? 24 Hr Urine Test?

I'm 35 weeks and dr said i have protein in urine and wants to do a 24 hr urine test where i have to collect all my urine for 24 hrs and give it to them to test....anyone have to do this?  if so what does it mean?  He didn't sound worried but of course i worry about everything!

    Seems like they're looking for potential sings of pre-e.  How has your BP been?  Any swelling or anything like that?  Dizziness?

    I haven't had to do it myself, but I work in a lab. They give you a huge brown jug (maybe 2 to be safe) and you have to save your urine for exactly 24 hours. I think all 24 hours must be refridgerated as well (no matter the test), so that's the hard part if you're not doing it on the weekend and you work. They can give you a hat for the toliet to catch the urine in and it has a funnel on the side so you can pour it into the jug. Then you take it to the lab (or the office - whereever they tell you) and they test it!

    I had to do this with my first.  It's possible that you could have/develop pre-eclampsia which is why they want to test you.  Is your b/p high?  This is what happened to me but I didn't have headaches that are commonly associated with pre-e.  I think they diagnosed me as "mild".  I was put on bed rest and the induced at 39 weeks.  It all worked out fine.

    No high blood pressure or swelling of any kind which makes me wonder if maybe i just have a uti or something.  my dr's office is very cautious so i'm trying not to be too concerned.  oh i have to refridgerate the urine?  yuck.  i'll have to call to get the instructions before i do it.

    I had to do this last week as well.  My BP was normal, but there was apparently a lot of protein in my urine at my dr visit.  When I did the 24 hr test, my results came back at 328 (protein in urine)- she said they really don't like to see anything over 300. Therefore, I was put on bed rest (since Thursday afternoon).  I went into the dr yesterday and my protein was down, and my BP was still normal.  She told me that I could not go back to work and I still needed to rest at home. If my protein would have been high again yesterday, she would have induced me (due to signs of pre-e).  I go back on Thursday, if my protein is up, BP is up, or anything, she will induce me then!  GL!  Let us know what the results are!

    I did it last week - it's testing for pre-e.  Unfortunately even with no swelling and only very slightly elevated BP and NO protein in my urine in the office my 24 hour collect came back high, I was diagnosed yesterday with pre-e and I'm now out of work on bed rest until LO comes!

    I did in my last pregnancy, which I developed Pre-E and delivered at 33 weeks.  I also did the 24 urine test with this pregnancy too, just to make sure there wasn't any problems this time around.  Yes, it's a pain to have to collect it, and keep it refridgerated, but I'd say it's better that they're keeping a close eye on it, than just letting it go.  I'd also keep an eye on your bp.
