I know that this was asked before, and I tried to find that response but I think it is likely many pages back.
For your shower, did people buy off the registry?
Buy items from the registry from some place else?
Or do buy whatever they liked? Also, if they bought of the registry was it last minute?
Re: For those who have had your shower
Most people bought things the day before my shower.
We received a lot of clothes and most of our big ticket items. We ended up buying the small things ourself when we went to complete our registry. With all the gift cards we received, we paid $4.50 out of pocket for $300 worth of stuff.
I noticed that on my registry some people bought soon after getting the invite while others waited until shortly before.
I got very few items from my registry and most of the people who bought things bought thngs that they liked from other places.
I also got many special items like hand made blankets and quilts for the baby and those were my favorite items since they hold a special meaning !!!
For my registry 90% of the items we asked for we received, BUT, people did NOT mark them off as bought so online it looked like we weren't getting anything we needed. Thankfully that wasn't true.
And yes, a lot of people said they bought anywhere from a week prior to the shower to just the day before.
My mother and MIL are the only ones who bought off the registry. We got our crib, bedding and pnp from them.
Others bought clothing, several bought diapers and generic items like bath soap, laundry detergent, blankets, etc.
My aunt bought me pj's for in the hospital, bath bubbles for me and lingerie for 'when you feel sexy again'. LOL.
Its pretty much hit or miss with people these days. For some reason, with babies, they either feel that they 'know' what you need or find something they like better than what you've registered for.
For your shower, did people buy off the registry?
Yes and no, about a third of the gifts I got were from registry, but at least most of them were gift I could really use.
Buy items from the registry from some place else?
ALOT of things actually came from Walmart instead of Target and BRU, so I probably should have registered at Walmart too so all my family with Walmart addictions could have found what I needed there.
Or do buy whatever they liked? Also, if they bought of the registry was it last minute?
I still had people that bought the "cute outfits" (we are team green, got some team green outfits, but also got boy and girl outfits as well) and about the last week is when things really started to disappear from the registry.
Hope this helps!

Yes, yes and yes! While this is easy to say, and not always easy to practice- don't get too caught up in the whole registry purchase thing- people buy what they want to buy.
We received quite a few things that were not on our registry but were "mom approved" by friends and family- I will take that recommendation any day of the week instead of the guessing my DH and I did while registering.
Good luck!
Most of my guests bought off the registry and did so either the day before or the day of the shower. Those who didn't buy off my registry still bought things similar or exactly like what I had on my registry but jsut at a different store.
The people that didn't buy clothes (hard to resist girl clothes!), bought off the registry at the last minute.
However, I did have to go home after the shower and edit my registry because they weren't taken off it. Or I got similar items to what I registered for and took the item off the registry.
Now that my showers are done, the registries are more or less just a checklist of things we need to get ourselves. So I printed out the registries and plan to comparison shop online to see where I can get each item the cheapest. Too much time on my hands I guess. :-)
My shower is Saturday, and so far 3 things have came off the registry and I think these were purchased by people who are able to attend.
To be honest the registry is pretty boring- we were given a lot of items second hand. So the registry is mostly small safety items, cloth diapers, disposable diapers, hangers and wipes. You really could look at it online and go to walmart and get everything there. I didn't put a lot of toys and books on there because most of my friends already have kids (I am the last one to get pregnant) and I have told them to buy me what they found useful.
I am sure I will get some great stuff!
I could have wrote this myself. Thankfully Walmart will take pretty much anything back. Got a couple of hundred in Walmart GC and bought diapers...and some non-baby stuff.
Most people bought off the registry for our shower. Of course some people didn't which is fine by me.
We are team green so I am not sure if that was a factor, but we didn't get many clothes. It was mostly bigger/registry items.

My BFP Chart
Most people bought off of the registry. I only ended up returning one thing, that the person bought at the store I was registered at but didn't bother to look at the registry, I guess they thought they knew better than me what I needed.
I did get a lot of stuff that wasn't on the registry, but I didn't register for any clothing after hearing from everyone that people bought them tons of clothes. And I did end up with a bunch of clothes, but enough of a variety of sizes that I don't think I have too many.
